With the Fire Department Open House less than two weeks away, everybody is getting ready – even Sparky the Fire Dog. You can get ready, too, by marking October 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on your calendar! Firefighters and Sparky will be happy to meet you. Come check out the fire station, see fire trucks and ambulances, and learn about fire prevention. Watch this video for more details. |

The former Golden Lantern Inn on East Avenue is slated to be a B&B once more. Plans are underway for the B&B to reopen under the proposed name of "721 Inn." The Tudor Revival-style house boasts five rooms for B&B guests. The B&B would add another chapter to the long history of the house, which was built in 1932 as the home of Jess R. Sweasy, who was president of the Red Wing Shoe Company for nearly three decades. While waiting for an official reopening, take a drive by the house to admire the architecture of just one of the many historic residences Red Wing is proud to still have. |

John Rich Park is a jewel in the heart of downtown Red Wing. Its beautiful gardens and pergola have made it a favorite, but its fountain needed some love. Thanks to an anonymous donor, the fountain is undergoing a full restoration, bringing back the original 1907 glory with a dose of modern technology. Soon it will be the centerpiece it's meant to be. COVID-19 Testing: Know Before You Go |

If you need a COVID-19 test, you can still get one in Red Wing, but you'll want to make sure you're going to the right spot. Mayo Clinic is no longer offering COVID-19 tests at their Red Wing main campus, but they have opened a new testing location in Red Wing Plaza – across from the former Family Fare/EconoFoods and next to Snap Fitness. You can make an appointment for a test by calling 507-434-9929. The location is open for appointments from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. |

Michael Babb always had an interest in the fire service, but he wasn't sure how to make it a career. After four years as a paid-on-call firefighter and a lot of extra training, he earned the position of Fire Inspector in July. A lot of his job is in the title, but he also particularly enjoys the public education part of his role. With Fire Prevention Month just around the corner, he's sure to be busy. Outside of the fire station, he's been busy at home, too, unpacking a new house he shares with his wife, Dael; kids, Audrey and Josh; two dogs; and two cats. His family is also big into the arts, so if you miss him at the upcoming Fire Department Open House, you might just bump into him at a play or movie. |
