Eastbrook Elementary's National Honor Society and Beta Club Organize Blanket and Towel Drive
Eastbrook Elementary's National Honor Society and Beta Club held a successful blanket and towel drive to support the Seminole County Animal Shelter. Students worked tirelessly to collect hundreds of gently used blankets, towels, and pet beds for the animals in need. These items will help provide comfort and warmth for the animals awaiting adoption, making a significant difference in their lives.
| |
|
Through their dedication and generosity, the students gathered an impressive amount of donations. The students had the opportunity to personally deliver the donations to the shelter, where they were greeted with heartfelt gratitude from the staff.
This initiative not only helped to provide essential items for the animals but also demonstrated the kindness and compassion of Eastbrook's students and families. Nice work, Eagles!

Indian Trails Middle's Seventh Graders Travel Back to the American Revolution
The seventh grade ELA students at Indian Trails Middle School recently embarked on an exciting journey back to the beginnings of the American Revolution. Their mission was to learn more about King George III and George Washington by reading the book George vs. George, which is part of the Florida BEST benchmarks list.
After reading the book, students dressed up as George Washington and King George III, to bring the story to life. Through this activity, students formed their own opinions and supported their perspectives with information they had learned, while adding a fun and interactive element to their studies.
This hands-on approach not only made history more relatable but also sparked critical thinking and lively debates among the students. It was a very engaging way to learn. Go Trailblazers!

Lake Howell High Recognized for Outstanding School-based Enterprise
The Hawk Shop, the school-based enterprise at Lake Howell High School, was among 851 school-based enterprises (SBE), and 1 of only 4 Florida School-based enterprises to achieve Gold for the 2024-2025 school year! They will be recognized during DECA’s International Career Development Conference this April 26-29, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.
| |
|
A school-based enterprise is an entrepreneurial operation in a school setting that provides goods and services to meet the needs of the market. These SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate National Curriculum Standards in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
“DECA’s School-based Enterprise Certification Program is a rigorous process designed to help DECA members demonstrate their classroom learning in a practical, learning laboratory, and then translate that into meaningful outcomes. These DECA members are practicing important workplace readiness skills while preparing for college and careers.”
- Christopher Young, CAE, Chief Program Officer at DECA Inc
Under the leadership of DECA advisor Lauren Axelrod, the Business Ownership students and officers of Lake Howell DECA played a crucial role in achieving the certification. The following are the officers of Lake Howell DECA:
Congratulations to the Lake Howell's DECA for this wonderful accomplishment!

SCPS Students Excel at World Languages Festival
The ESOL/World Languages Department, here at SCPS, hosted its annual District World Languages Festival, celebrating multiculturalism under the theme "Connecting Cultures, Empowering Multilingual Learners." This event provided students enrolled in World Language classes with the opportunity to showcase their skills through impromptu speeches, declamations (poetry recitations in their target languages), skits, and artwork centered around this year’s theme. Additionally, English Language Learners participated in an exciting Spelling Bee.
| |
|
World Language students gain a deeper understanding of connecting global cultures, examining their own traditions and norms while exploring the beliefs and practices of others. This curriculum fosters the development of global competency, which includes not only understanding diverse cultures around the world but also respecting the unique cultures within our own SCPS community. Teachers support this learning by encouraging students to investigate and reflect on the practices, products, and perspectives of different countries. Through these experiences, students are building the global competence necessary to become future-ready graduates.
SCPS offers a wide range of language courses, including Chinese, Japanese, Latin, American Sign Language (ASL), Spanish, and French.
It is truly amazing to see our students explore the different parts of our community that make us whole!
