Board News Brief

August 25, 2022

Dear Las Lomitas Elementary School District Community,

Below are highlights from the Governing Board’s August 17, 2022 meeting (access board materials here).

Campus Modernization Projects and Timeline

Todd Mortensen, Project Manager at CPM gave a construction update on our modernization projects. Construction was underway all summer on both campuses and the projects are proceeding as planned and on budget. While construction will continue into the fall, it will not impact pick-up and drop-off procedures, site access, school schedules, or playing fields and courts. Instruction remains LLESD’s focus. For safety purposes, we will fence off each phase of construction from students. Check out the Facility Projects Update page for the latest construction updates.

Summer School Update

Shannon Potts, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, gave a short presentation on the success of our LLESD summer programs along with video highlights.

108 students participated in our grade-level summer school program and 277 students participated in KickStart (a five-day program for students new to LLESD). Of the 277 new students, 107 were entering either Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten, setting them up for success from the first day of school.

Communications Update

Kelli Twomey, our new Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator, gave an update on communications initiatives and priorities she launched over the last three months, including a communication plan for the 2022-2023 school year, new district branding, and website enhancements. Kelli shared her process and the outcome for each.

The next board meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022; the open session begins at 7:00 pm. You can view the agenda here.

Respectfully,

Heather Hopkins
