Volunteers Needed: Winter Emergancy Shelter
The City of Lawrence is needing volunteers who can assist in providing a safe and warm place for those most affected by the cold season.

The Lawrence Winter Emergency Shelter offers a warm, safe environment for anyone when the daily overnight temperature are at or below 35 degrees. On those nights, the shelter will open 8 p.m. through 7 a.m. the following morning. Shifts available are 7pm-11pm, 11pm-5am, and 5am-7am.

CSL Course Opportunity:
UNIV 492- Special Projects in the Community
This winter, the CSL will be offering an online six-week section of UNIV 492: Special Projects in the Community. The course content of UNIV 492 deepens students' understanding of service work by introducing knowledge and skills needed to carry out effective and ethical volunteer efforts. 

Students can select their own service project and enroll in the "Local" section of the course, and students participating in an Alternative Winter Break can enroll in the "Alternative Breaks" section.

UNIV 492 counts as a service learning or social awareness course for the Certificate in Service Learning, which satisfies KU Core Goal 5.

Service Learning Opportunity:
Certificate in Service Learning
We invite you to consider earning a Certificate in Service Learning. Obtaining your certificate involves taking classes, engaging in volunteer work, and reflecting on your service learning experiences. Once you have earned the certificate, it is acknowledged on your official academic transcript.

There are a number of steps to complete the Certificate in Service Learningmake sure you visit our website to learn more about where you are in the process or where to start if you are just beginning!

Community Service Opportunity Spotlights
Avenue of Life's mission is to end homelessness for families and children in Kansas City. They connect resources, community partners, and local agencies to children and families so that they have every resource they need to better their situation.

Loud Light is a nonpartisan organization focused on increasing youth civic participation in Kansas. This organization engages, educates, and empowers members of underrepresented populations to build community power to impact decision-makers to do good.

ThrYve supports a community-level approach to prevent youth violence by empowering youth and families to thrive by providing a safe and supportive environment for our youth and families to flourish.

Strong Girls is a life skills intervention program that develops positive thinking, goal setting, confidence, stress management and social skills among adolescent girls. The program provides both physical activity and life skills activities for the girls by intentionally creating a positive, caring, and cooperative environment.

Submit a Presentation Proposal for the 2022 Service Showcase and Celebration
We are looking for dynamic stories, unique projects, and inspiring service for our Spring 2022 Service Showcase happening this spring!

For this year’s showcase we are seeking students who have completed service projects or placements that have made an impact on them as students and the community. This opportunity will provide students an opportunity to network with service minded professionals, practice their presentation skills, and add additional experience to their educational portfolio.
