Groove

I attend a couple of exercise classes each week, and to be clear this is not a Peloton workout, only classes that will improve body balance and movement and help to work the brain a little. Ha! These past few weeks both instructors, Steph and Nancy separately, have emphasizer the same message of how important it is to not let you body get stuck in a groove.  It was explained that we habitually do the same movements in walking, or working out, or just everyday running errands.  And as we do that, we reinforce those everyday muscles to kind of take control and let so many of the others muscles lay dormant and pretty much in a state of being non essential. We conform to the habits we have allowed our bodies and minds to accept. When we continue to work within that groove it just gets deeper and the framework surrounding the groove sets into almost a barrier instead of merely a border.

This explanation totally made sense to me and gives me a little motivation to jump the borders and find some new paths and explore some new patterns. Everyday we have an opportunity to be creative and curious and move in different ways, and think in different ways. But it order to do that we have to be willing to make/take some new moves in directions that are not familiar. These mindful exercises will awaken and fire up some of those sleepy muscles and give each of us a better sense of balance footing and even help us if we should fall.

Well, I guess you pretty much know where I am going with this one.  We all have routines that we have forged that do tend to tuck us into a groove. And that groove is good if it is something that needs rhythm, like snow skiing, or dancing or gymnastics etc. But God has given us “life” to enjoy and if we limit his creative interaction or reject a curious incentive, then we are limiting the joy that might be just outside  the boundaries that we ourselves have set.  If you pay close attention you will find that God constantly is giving us opportunities to engage in his works. Those chance involvements, if we let them, will ultimately fill our souls with satisfaction as well as maybe enhance a situation that we have previously overlooked, or even encourage us to add something fun to our day and help us hop out of our comfort zone.

I personally think it is fun to jump the borders, sometimes a little hard to do when you are trying to undo what we have carved into, but that is how I am wired…Some of you may be more cautious, oh but there is such great joy in getting out of your own space and exploring the blessings that are just outside your boundaries.  Sure, with our efforts, there will always be risks and rewards… but when God is leading, he will help us to overcome the risks and bless us with the rewards of grace and mercy for even trying.

When we allow God to be an active part of our lives that is an exercise that will sustain us, give us balance, and help us to move more freely. And if we should fall short as we often do, God will pick us up, dust us off, and get us ready for our next adventure. May God bless you as you contemplate the groove you may be in and the choices that God has gently laid before you.

In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence

Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
