Dear Cougar Families,

Happy November! We are blessed to have you be a part of our Gross Catholic family. In an attempt to communicate and work with families in a more efficient fashion, we are sharing some important news.

The 2025-2026 Grant & Aid application opened November 1st. If you plan to receive financial aid, you must complete this application by no later than February 1, 2025. We are moving up our financial aid review timeline and we encourage you to complete the application at your earliest convenience. There is no need to wait on your 2024 tax return as we can use your 2023 return. If you anticipate a significant change from 2023 to 2024, please provide details in the notes section on the application. You can go back later and add the 2024 return if necessary.

We understand that Catholic education is a sacrifice and we thank you for entrusting us with your children. Your timely completion of the Grant & Aid application will allow the Tuition Assistance Committee to award financial aid by early spring. This will in turn help your family with planning for the 2025-2026 school year.

GROSS CATHOLIC BOOSTER CLUB

After thoughtful discussion and reflection, the 2024-2025 Booster Club Officers decided to start communicating out the following message now, so that there is a chance to improve the situation in the coming months.

The Gross Catholic Booster Club was re-established in 2016. While paid membership remains steady (currently at 105) and there continues to be financial support for the Booster Club Raffle (formerly called the Booster Club 500 Calendar Club) (81% of sales goal reached this year, $132K distributed over last 8 years), overall engagement and active participation in the running of the club and its committees remains on the shoulders of a very small group of volunteers, some of whom have been involved for multiple years and all of whom are wrapping up their "Cougar parent tenure" as their "youngests" are upperclassmen.

For reasons not unique to the Booster Club, volunteerism remains very low, and thus we have made the difficult decision that without a new slate of Officers--President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary--for the 2025-2026 school year and a new Raffle Chairperson, the current officers will work to responsibly close down the Booster Club at the end of this school/fiscal year (June 2025). The good news is if the positions are secured in time, the current persons in those roles will be around for one more year to provide guidance and support to their successors.

While this is sad to us and will result in less future financial support for extracurriculars/programs/sports/clubs across the school, the reality is that the Booster Club is not sustainable under the current volunteerism landscape. We hope our message encourages some prayerful consideration of how some of you may be able to help the situation.

Thank you for your past and current support. Our hope is that with some increased volunteerism, everyone's future support is possible, and the Booster Club will go on!

What can you do? Please complete this survey (by Fri, Nov 29th) and attend the next Booster Club General Meeting on Wednesday, November 20th at 630pm in the Media Center (open to members & non-members). The November agenda can be accessed HERE.

With gratitude,

The 2024-2025 Booster Club Officers

Christina Legner - President

Joanna Lee - Vice President

Alison Duncan - Treasurer

Laura Demman - Secretary

National Honor Society Induction

Juniors were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS), with the help of current seniors. NHS, founded in 1921, was created to recognize and encourage academic achievement by young people while developing other characteristics necessary to citizens in a democracy. These ideals of scholarship, character, service, and leadership remain as relevant today as they were in 1921. The National Honor Society chapter at Gross is a membership into a group of high achieving students of good character, service and leadership. NHS activities include being a peer tutor for other students at school, completing a service project during the year, and overall being leaders for your fellow students. There are National Honor Society chapters in schools all over the country.
