Our Mission: Power A Clean Future Ohio is building momentum now for a clean, prosperous future by equipping local leaders for equitable, community-driven carbon reductions in Ohio.
Local Action Update:
Upper Arlington and Solon become
PCFO Communities
During Upper Arlington's City Council meeting on November 8, the council unanimously adopted a resolution to join Power a Clean Future Ohio, making them the 23rd PCFO community. Together, we will work with their local leaders as the city develops a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the City of Upper Arlington and expand our investment in the clean energy economy.

Council member Michaela Burriss said, “I’m always hearing from our residents and small businesses that they want Upper Arlington to continue leading on environmental and sustainability issues. Joining PCFO is responsive and responsible. There is no cost. The connections, leadership, and expertise within the coalition will help us create a roadmap to achieve our goals while including community input. We all depend on a clean, healthy environment. Achieving this requires investing in necessary safeguards and using every tool available. I’m excited for Upper Arlington to create new pathways toward a more healthy, safe, and sustainable community for everyone to enjoy.”

During Solon's City Council meeting on November 15, the council unanimously adopted a resolution to join Power a Clean Future Ohio, making them the 24th PCFO community. With the help of their city's leadership, we will work together to find ways to engage in sustainability initiatives and clean energy programs for the community. To begin this journey, Solon has adopted a carbon reduction goal of 30% by 2030.

Solon Mayor Edward Kraus said, “In Solon, we know what it takes to make smart investments and find good partners so when we met with Power A Clean Future Ohio we knew their knowledge and growing network would be a great benefit to the city’s plans for the future. We also know that in the emerging and growing clean energy economy the opportunities that are out there have the potential to provide deep benefits to both Solon residents and the environment. We all win when we put our community priorities into action and I am looking forward to planning and implementing smart clean energy policy with PCFO’s support.”

New Research Study Gauges Appetite for Renewable Energy in Ohio
A research study led by The Great Plains Institute and conducted by Gilbert Michaud, Ph.D., assistant professor at Loyola University, was recently completed to identify openness to renewable energy projects throughout Ohio.

According to Dr. Michaud, “To the best of our knowledge, this is the first and most comprehensive look at jurisdictional-level policies, as well as organizational and business commitments to renewables, across Ohio. We need to develop smarter pathways to decarbonize our grid, including how and where to site large renewable energy projects, and this study is a useful step in understanding the magnitude and location of these public and private drivers. Government officials, regional planners, and many other stakeholders can benefit from this work.”

PCFO’s Executive Director Joe Flarida said, “The exciting results of this project line up with what we are hearing from local leaders from every corner of Ohio. They are looking to invest in sustainable economic growth and development through renewable energy projects to power their governments, businesses, homes, and schools. Power a Clean Future Ohio looks forward to sharing the opportunities that this research presents with these local elected officials in the coming months.”
The vast majority of Americans love solar and wind power
In an article from Canary Media, a recent poll has shown an overwhelming support for solar and wind power in America. In comparison to other energy sources like coal and oil, solar and wind are two areas that most people agree we need more of.

Even with this impressive response toward clean energy, the article states that there has not been much action taken at the state level.
