Chapter News
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month
During Hispanic Heritage Month, CREW New York honors the history, culture, influence, achievements, and contributions made throughout our history by the Hispanic and Latino/a/x community.

Observation of Hispanic Heritage Week started in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was later extended to a 30-day celebration by President Ronald Reagan, starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law via approval of Public Law 100-402 on August 17, 1988.

Hispanic Americans are integral to the prosperity of the US. Their contributions to the nation are immeasurable, and they embody the best of American values.
Donate Holiday Gifts to WIN Shelters with CREWNY Secret Santa
It is time to kick off the CREW New York Secret Santa Program! Help make it a happy holiday season for children living in Women in Need (WIN) residences.

This year our goal is to provide 500 gifts for children, with 200 gifts donated by the end of October. Help stock the toy store by clicking below.

Orders will be placed through a Target registry, after which families can “shop” the items through WIN’s pop-up toy store. We ask that you please consider supporting one family in need by contributing two gifts and a $25 gift card.

Every child will choose two toys, and every adult will receive one $25 Target gift card so they have the freedom to pick a needed item for their child. Due to the logistics involved in hosting the pop-up toy stores, our goal is to donate 200 gifts by the end of October, with the remaining donations contributed by December 3rd.

After placing your order, log your donation on the WIN landing page (through the link above) to track CREW's progress and receive a tax donation letter.

We are also accepting cash donations to purchase gifts and gift cards to reach our goal. All donations are welcome!

Please contact Meredith Hayes at Meredith.Hayes@gza.com or Joy Brigis at Joy.Brigis@rsmus.com for more details or with any questions.

Thank you for your continuing support!

Beyond the Chapter
CREW Convention 2021: Finding Our Way in the New Normal
By Jennifer Carey, Principal, JLC Environmental Consultants, Inc. | CREWNY CREW Convention Scholarship Recipient
CREW Network Foundation Gala
Networking is Only One Vowel Away From Not Working

Kicking off with a powerful rendition of “That Girl Is On Fire” sung by a CREW Houston member, the CREW Network 2021 Convention opening session was interspersed with various members from across the world, giving us a glimpse into their struggles through COVID. It was a moving start to our first in-person international network event in 20 months and set the tone for what was to come.
A slew of exciting speakers addressed the members present, starting with Wendy Mann, CREW CEO, who reminded all of us how important it was not to let chaos disrupt our participation in CREW, and Tiffany English, CREW 2021 President, who confided to the audience of over 700 attendees that her philosophy is "our comebacks define us."

After the morning welcome, Linda Alvarado, a construction industry powerhouse who became first the Latina owner of a Major League Baseball Team, spoke about how she changes the way people think about women historically and reminded us all that, while different women speak different languages, we can all move forward regardless of these differences.
CREW visionaries 2021
The other keynote addresses in the days following were equally informative - from Dr. Mauro Guillemot from Cambridge University, who discussed world demographics and their impact on CRE, to Sarah Thomas, who talked about her groundbreaking career as the first female referee in NFL history and who is the embodiment of "if you can see it, you can be it." The CREW Network educational committee did a fine job creating various breakout discussions, interactive panels and mega sessions, which were all well attended. I particularly enjoyed CEO speaker Shelly Archambe, author of Unapologetically Ambitious, who shared her business strategies and had something to offer anyone striving to climb the ladder of success - no matter which rung you are currently occupying.
In addition to the on-site convention activities, including CREW Marketplace and CREW Net Walk/Runs, the off-site tours gave participants a behind-the-scenes look at Las Vegas, which has grown from a sleepy town with a population of 45,000 in 1971 to approximately 2.4 million people today.

Finally, it wouldn't be the "convention" without the annual CREW Foundation Gala celebration. This year's festivities were held at the Liberace Mansion, the former home of the musical legend. It was a relaxed venue in which to catch up with CREW colleagues - all while doing good as we raised money to support the CREW Foundation's mission of providing scholarships to young professionals entering our field.
I hope all CREW New York chapter members get a chance to attend a Network Convention (Chicago 2022). I always come away feeling inspired, with a fresh look at our industry from a 10,000-foot perspective. Awesome!
