Winter Break & Stay Over Information

It’s hard to believe you’ve almost completed your first term at Queen’s! To maintain a quiet study environment for all students during the exam period, we encourage you to leave residence by 3 pm the day after writing your last scheduled exam or by Saturday, December 21 at 5 pm, at the latest.

If you need to extend your residence stay beyond 3 pm on the day after your last exam, or if you need to stay in residence over the break, please go to the Residence and Dining Portal to fill out one or both of the below forms:

  1. Residence Extension Request – to request to remain in residence past 3 pm on the day after your last exam
  2. Residence Stayover Form – to request to stay in residence over the break (for some or all of the time between December 21 and January 5)

December Mail delivery

As we approach the winter break, please note that all mail and package deliveries to campus will end on December 20 when the Watts mail depot closes for the season.

To ensure you receive any orders before the break, please plan accordingly and stop placing new orders by December 6. This cutoff will allow enough time for items to arrive on campus before December 20.

Thank you for your cooperation, and please reach out to the team at the Watts mail depot if you have any questions, through the LiveChat on our website.

Conduct Corner: Respecting our community

An important aspect of residence life is learning to live and have fun in a way that respects others in the residence community. This means developing the interpersonal skills necessary for resolving conflicts peacefully. Here are some useful strategies for living in a community with lots of people who may have different experiences and expectations than you.

  • Communicate respectfully. Express your feelings and stick to the facts. Focus on the problem and not the other person’s actions. If you disagree about something with your canmate, roommate or people on your floor, talk to them. Dirty dishes in the common room? Talk about it at your next community meeting. Connect with your Don if you have any concerms.
  • Listen to other perspectives on the issue. Ask open-ended questions to understand.
  • When there is a problem, like excessive noise, parties down the hall or someone is damaging property, seek help. Call the Front Desk for the Don on-call or if necessary, call Campus Security. You can stay anonymous when you report.

Retaliation, harassment and banging on doors are not ways to solve problems, and they are violations of the Residence Contract (clause 4.10.2 - Inappropriate behaviour) and the Student Code of Conduct.  Remember when you have a problem, decide to walk away, ignore, talk it out or seek help.
