Dear friends,

I hope you all had a restful and productive summer! It has been a pleasure seeing old friends come back to shul over the past few weeks and to meet the new members of the BDJ family.

Staff Updates

It is my great pleasure to introduce you to Dr. Tamar Marvin, our Elul/Tishrei clergy intern. Dr. Marvin is a student at Maharat in the Smikha class of 2024 and is an accomplished scholar of medieval Jewish thought. She is passionate about teaching and bringing Torah to life through the study of Rishonim and classical texts. Dr. Marvin was a popular instructor at AJU and we are very excited to have her teach alongside Rav Yosef as we prepare for the Yamim Noraim. She will be teaching in-person shiurim and sharing Torah via email throughout Elul, and will be joining us, along with her family, for all of the chagim. If you would have the ability to house Dr. Marvin, her husband, and their three children for any of the Chagim (2 or 3 bedrooms), please be in touch with Rav Yosef as soon as possible.

Please join me in welcoming back Adynna Swarz, our Executive Director, from a rejuvenating summer in Israel! I am grateful to Neil Spears, our Interim Executive Director, who quickly became a part of the BDJ family. As you saw in last week’s bulletin, we also are saying goodbye to our Membership and Communications Director, Brooke Botwinick. We wish Neil and Brooke much hatzlacha in their future roles, and appreciate your patience while we are short-staffed.

Community Input

Earlier this summer, we had two very productive community discussions about the assistant clergy position. In order to gather as much input as possible, we will be sending out a shul-wide survey in the coming weeks, and we hope to get 100% participation. In addition, our next board meeting is September 7 at 8pm. Click here to sign up to attend.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,
