Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Upcoming Annual Appeal Will Be Two Appeals In One

The material you will receive as part of this year’s stewardship campaign will include a response card with spaces for you to enter two different pledges.

  • One space will be for the amount you plan to give in 2022 for the normal support of Trinity Church and its mission in Hartford and the world. This is the equivalent of your normal annual pledge to the church.

  • The other space will be for the amount, if applicable and not already pledged by you, that you would like to pledge in 2022 for The Campaign for Trinity – the three-year capital campaign to repair and update our buildings.

This will be the final year of the Campaign for Trinity – although we’re considering providing an opportunity in future years for contributions specifically to building maintenance. Please start now to consider what you could give in the coming year to support both the life of Trinity Church and the home of Trinity Church. Thank you!
Needed Items for Our New Afghan
Refugee Family

Our family, originally due to arrive a couple weeks ago, has been delayed by illness but is expected very soon. And we have learned that the mother is pregnant. So the family will need certain baby items, as well as some clothing for the four children. The oldest child is the only girl; she is approaching 8 y/o. The other three are boys, 6, 4, and 3.
All used items should be in good condition. Any used crib items or baby toys should be bleached. All used clothing should be thoroughly washed.
For the crib: plastic mattress protector, regular mattress protector, sheets, blankets.

Other items for ages 0-6 mos., infant diapers and diapers one size large than that, onesies, outdoor wear, pjs, and indoor winter clothes.

For the children: Underpants and socks (MUST BE NEW), pants, tops, sweaters/sweatshirts, mittens and other outdoor wear, pajamas.

For the parents: In general, we don't want to acquire clothing until we know their sizes. However, given the chilly weather, hats and gloves are now requested.
These are the only items we still need for the family.
Please contact Anne Rapkin (860-521-5992) or a.rapkin@snet.net  if you can help.
Can You Sponsor an Item For TEC's Afghan Family?

Trinity's Refugee Resettlement Team is looking for sponsors for a couple of items. Would you, or several of you together, be willing to sponsor the Team's purchase of these items:

1. Infant car seat

2. PC or laptop; if a PC, speakers; if a laptop, mouse; and a printer

Thank you very much for considering this request. For more information, please contact Anne Rapkin at 860-521-5992 or a.rapkin@snet.net.

Loaves And Fishes Team
Returns to Cooking at Trinity Episcopal Church

The Trinity Loaves and Fishes Team will be providing a cooked meal for Loaves and Fishes Hartford starting in November. Due to Covid restrictions we will be cooking only in November. Serving remains on hold. If you are interest in joining us, please feel free to come to TEC on Tuesday, November 16th at 1:30 pm. We will be cooking "Richards's Chicken and Rice" which is a favorite of those who come to eat at Loaves and Fishes. If you have questions, please call Steve Zhitnik at 860-521-5992.
Help Organize Trinity's 2021 "Giving Tree"

This Advent, we will continue Trinity's tradition of a "Giving Tree" project. A tree will be set up in the Sanctuary, loaded with tags that list special wishes from the students at Trinity Academy, as well as children whose names are given to us by Covenant to Care. Parishioners who wish to participate chose a tag, purchase, wrap and place the gift under the tree - all within a 2-3 week period.

This year's details will follow in November, but as you might imagine, this is a team effort! Volunteers are needed for activities such as: coordinating with Trinity Academy and Covenant to Care, creating the lists electronically, making the tags, setting up the tree, being present on Sunday mornings to assist parishioners with the tags, monitoring returning gifts and following up as needed.

If you'd like to be involved in some aspect of this organization, and get to know fellow parishioners in the process, please contact me by October 24.

Sanctuary Stitchers Wants You!

The “Sanctuary Stitchers”, Trinity's prayer shawl ministry group, is starting up again this fall, and welcomes new members!

We meet for prayers, fellowship and knitting, crocheting or other portable crafting. The group creates prayer shawls, lap robes and baby blankets for members of the parish and ministry partners.

If you enjoy creating for the benefit of others, consider joining this informal and welcoming group. Please contact me if you have any questions, or would like to be included in group communications.

Black Lives Matter Sign

Please note that the ‘Black Lives Matter to God and to Us’ sign has been temporarily removed while we find an alternative sign with the same message that complements the aesthetics of the building and grounds.

Trinity Book Group

The next meeting of Trinity's Book Group will take place in the Trinity Library on Friday, Nov. 5th, 7:00-9:00 pm.

The Group is open to all Trinity folks, whether they attend once or regularly. All are welcome! The book to be discussed is Anxious People by Fredrik Backman which, despite its title, is a comedy. It's available at Amazon and other booksellers, and libraries. Masks will be worn, except when partaking of the refreshments. No need to RSVP. Come and join in the fellowship, the discussion, and the laughter!

Sunday, November 14 and November 21: Housing Discrimination in Connecticut

Did you know that Connecticut has a long history of carefully and intentionally “designed” racial segregation in housing? On November 14 and November 21, Erin Boggs of the Open Communities Alliance will help us understand how we got to where we are, and share some ideas about how we can make housing opportunities more open to all.

Plan to join us for this two-part forum.
Women Together

Women Together has begun a new discussion series on Tuesday, October 19th, with the book In Search of Belief by Joan Chittister. This book delves into the meaning of the Apostles Creed, phrase by phrase; on the 19th, we discussed the Introduction and Chapter 1. WT meets every Tuesday from 2:00-3:15 in the Reception Room of St. John's in West Hartford, and is a gathering of women from St. Monica's, Trinity, St. John's, and friends. All are welcome to attend! For more information, contact Enid Oberholtzer (tomenidjas at aol.com) or Jo-Ann Sadosky (joann.sadosky43 at gmail.com).

Email Spam Reminder

There have been spam emails purporting to be coming from Barbara Roos.

Please remember that no one on the staff will ever email or text you asking you to purchase gift cards, or to urgently email back but not call. If it’s urgent Rev. D will call you and will not request that you not call. An easy way to check the validity of an email is to check the ‘from’ email address. This year, St. John’s is hosting a Trunk or Treat for the neighborhood. If you have never experienced a Trunk or Treat, google it! Trunk or Treats are a safe, fun way for families to celebrate Halloween. We will be advertising the event at neighborhood and partner schools. We hope to have at least 20 cars decorated and ready to hand out treats to ghouls, goblins, ninjas, and butterflies. Trunk or Treat is early enough in the evening to go out trick or treating afterwards, if that is your tradition.

You can participate in several ways:
·        Bring your vehicle and candy/treats/stickers for ~50-100 kids. Decorations are encouraged, and can be as simple or elaborate as you’d like. Please arrive by 3:30 to set up your car.
·        Decorate a table (provided) and bring treats as above. Please arrive by 3:30.
·        Dress up and welcome visitors! We’ll give you treats to hand out.
·        Donate candy, stickers, or other treats to supplement. Drop them off at church by 10/31, or order and have them delivered to the church care of Margie.
·        Bring your child (and perhaps another family) to trick or treat with us!

Trunk or Treats are geared towards younger children, but all are welcome.
