Dear World Scholars and Family Members,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that spring 2022 study abroad to New Zealand is canceled for the UD World Scholars Program. Unfortunately, the University of Auckland (UOA), our World Scholar partner in New Zealand, made the difficult decision to cancel inbound study abroad as the New Zealand Government continues to restrict international travel. We apologize for this disappointing news and write to you today with options for spring.
You now have the opportunity to study this spring on the campus of one of our partner sites in Europe -- the American College of Greece in Athens; John Cabot University in Rome, Italy; or St. Louis University in Madrid, Spain. Your choice of major, and its academic requirements, will have an impact on your eligibility for each site. Please complete this brief form by August 15 to ascertain your eligibility and to confirm your intended study abroad location for spring 2022. We have also informed your academic advisors, who will continue to work with you on your fall and spring course schedules to ensure that you are able to meet your graduation goals.
Understanding that you may have additional questions prior to choosing your alternate site for spring, we invite you to join us on the evening of Wednesday, August 11 for a virtual town hall in which we will provide a refresher on the attributes of each site, as well as an overview of the visa process for each country. Please note that the visa process for Greece has been greatly improved. Students may now apply for their visas through the Greek Embassy in DC or Consulate in NY and students are no longer required to have their background checks Apostilled! Regardless of your decision, we will support you throughout this time.
He waka eke noa (We are all in this together) is a sentiment our colleagues in New Zealand often share with us and one that resonates with us, too. Traveling and studying abroad during a global pandemic poses new challenges and requires accepting a higher level of uncertainty than in the past. We are disappointed in the cancellation of study abroad at the University of Auckland this year and appreciate your flexibility as we support your safe travel. It is our sincere hope that you will be able to study in New Zealand during your second World Scholars experience abroad. Should you have immediate questions, contact us at go-global@udel.edu.
Sincerely,
Amy Greenwald Foley, Associate Director and Meghan Gladle, Program Coordinator
