Wild Nights and Holiday Lights at the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary
This annual family event returns for the 11th year with its popular seasonal cheer! Thousands of bright and colorful lights, sparkling ornaments and trees, lighted animal figures, and displays transform the zoo sanctuary with holiday spirit. Local caroling groups and musicians provide the merry sounds of the season, and the Folsom Valley Railway miniature train provides special nighttime rides.

Wild Nights and Holiday Lights is open from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. December 10-12 and December 17-23 (weather permitting; heavy rains will cancel). All proceeds from the event benefit the zoo sanctuary animals.

New this year: to provide an enhanced experience for guests, admission and train rides are limited each night of the event and tickets for both are date-specific. Event admission is $10/person and train tickets are $5/person; admission and train rides are free for ages under 2 years. Due to the limited number of admissions, advance ticket purchase is strongly encouraged.

Advance tickets are available for purchase online at webtrac.folsom.ca.us. Tickets may also be purchased at the Folsom Parks & Recreation registration counter, 48 Natoma Street (open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday), or at the zoo ticket booth 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Follow Facebook.com/FolsomParksandRec for daily event updates, ticket availability, and potential weather-related schedule changes. Call 916-461-6601 for questions.

City of Folsom Earns Distinguished Financial Reporting Award
Annually, since 1988, the City of Folsom Finance Department has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association for the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The city was recognized for its FY 2018-19 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate members of the community to read the CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit association serving approximately 21,000 government finance professionals. Visit the City of Folsom website to review the annual financial reports.
Let’s Map Folsom’s Future Together
The City of Folsom is transitioning to a by-district election system for electing Folsom City Councilmembers and wants to hear from residents about how to split the city into five districts.

The process for establishing districts is controlled by federal and state laws, including data from the federal census. The city has hired a professional demographer to assist in the creation of proposed district boundaries based on demographics and input from Folsom residents.

As part of this process, the public is invited to submit district boundary suggestions. Proposed maps must be received on or before January 3.

Paper Mapping Tools: Submit proposed maps using paper mapping tools, available on the City of Folsom By-District Election webpage. Paper maps are also available at the Folsom Public Library and at Folsom City Hall/City Attorney’s Office, located at 50 Natoma Street (second floor), Folsom, CA 95630.

Online Mapping Tools: Create and submit proposed district maps using an online mapping tool, available on the City of Folsom website.

The Folsom City Council held the first and second of five required public hearings September 14 and October 12. Additional public hearings have been rescheduled for January 11, February 8, and February 22 to allow additional time for the community to submit comments and draw potential district maps. The hearings will provide an opportunity for public input about the content of the draft district maps. The draft maps will be published at least seven days before the January 11 public hearing.

Build a Water-Efficient Bathroom to Save Water, Energy, and Money
Did you know that bathrooms can account for more than half of all indoor water use? By giving your bathroom a “mini-makeover” with an EPA WaterSense labeled showerhead, faucet, and toilet, you can save enough water every year to wash six months’ worth of laundry. Folsom water customers can receive a rebate to upgrade existing toilets to a more efficient model.

EPA WaterSense labeled products are independently certified to use at least 20% less water and perform better than standard models. Even if you aren’t in the market for a complete bathroom makeover, replacing just your showerhead can reduce water and energy costs by as much as $70 every year.
