NEW Family Fund Encourages Community Philanthropy 
Introducing the Michael and Lana Haines Family Fund. “We want to continue and encourage philanthropy within our family for years to come," said Michael and Lana. "The most exciting part of the Fund is that we’ll do this together.”

Please join us in thanking Sally Bruch for her service on the Community Foundation Board of Directors. Sally served on the Board for three years, representing Kirkland.

$10,000 in Promise Grants Awarded to Local Organizations
Promise Grants support charitable community organizations that provide services to underserved and often dismissed populations in DeKalb County. The grant program recently distributed a total of $10,000 dollars to 11 organizations. 

NEW Fund Supports Sycamore Scholarships
In partnership with the Sycamore Education Foundation (SEF), we are honored to announce the Beckam North Fillipp Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Fillipp family established this high school scholarship with the SEF to honor the life and legacy of their son who was taken too soon and loved beyond measure. 

NEW Family Fund Supports Indian Creek Scholarships 
Announcing the Hicks Family Scholarship Fund, a tribute to the late James Hicks. “As a family, we wanted to give back to the town of Shabbona and the Indian Creek community,” said Egan Hicks. “My father spent over 50 years in education there, and he played a major part in shaping the school district into what it is today.”

Fund Supports Nursing Scholarships
Full-time students who are residents of DeKalb County seeking a college-level nursing degree are encouraged to apply for the Virginia Larsen Nursing Scholarship. The Scholarship Fund was created in 2001 by local philanthropist Virginia Larsen and has awarded more than $72,000 in its 20 years of existence. Deadline to apply is April 1, 2022.

Scholarship Applications Open Through April 1
With just one online application, high school students can apply for all scholarships that they quality for. There are more than 75 different Scholarship Funds at the Community Foundation. Thank you to our amazing donors for making these Funds and awards possible! 

YEP Alum Update With Ben Keierleber
Meet Ben Keierleber, Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP) alum and a 2019 graduate of Sycamore High School. So, where is Ben now, and did the YEP program have an impact on his life after high school?
