FYP AAC and IZ Happenings

UConn Innovation Zone Safety Training

All LC students should have access to the Safety Training on HuskyCT and need to complete the Green Level Training in order to access the makerspace during open hours. 

Please read through the following for guidelines on completing the safety training module:

  1. You will be able to access the training through the “Organizations” Tab on your HuskyCT homepage
  2. Select “Tech/Maker/Shop Training”, and read through the “Site Orientation”
  3. Select “Training Lessons”
  4. In order to gain access to the LCIZ Makerspace, you will need to complete the following training modules and receive 100% on the associated quizzes:
  • Tech Space HazCom Training with Graded Quiz
  • Tech/Maker/Shop PPE Training with Graded Quiz
  • Tech, Maker, and Shop Spaces: Green Level Training- Graded Quiz
  • ONCE STARTED, EACH INDIVIDUAL TRAINING MUST BE COMPLETE DURING THAT SESSION SO PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. If you attempt to skip ahead in trainings, or refresh the page during the training, your progress will be lost and you will need to start again.  

 

 If you have any questions about the safety training, or the Innovation Zone in general, please visit our website or contact Makerspace Supervisor Cody Ryan directly.

McNair Scholars Program

Application Deadline: October 13 by Noon


The McNair Scholars Program is a year-round, multi-year STEM research and graduate school preparatory opportunity including extensive professional development, academic writing and communication practice throughout the semesters, as well as a full-time, funded summer research component (optional, but highly encouraged!). Being a McNair Scholar equips students with the tools to be competitively considered for M.S. and Ph.D. programs across STEM disciplines.

Trips for 2022-2023 will focus on a range of topics including Healthcare Education and Access, HIV/AIDS Awareness and Advocacy, Community Development, Food Security, Civil Rights and Racial Justice, and more!

Monsters & Aliens: Exploring Science Fiction Pulps

Join Benton educators for an interactive two-part workshop exploring Ray Guns, Dames, and the Guilty Gaze: Feminism and the Golden Age of Science Fiction Pulps. Learn more about works of art in the exhibition through close looking and discussion. Then try your hand at creating watercolor splatter-paint monsters. A materials kit will be available at the front desk one week before the program; free for UConn students and Museum members, $5 for non-members.
