As you are hopefully aware, ODC is in the midst of a significant change within the Pastoral Team. As we welcome new people into the ODC Pastoral Team, please take the time to thank the clergy members that are moving on to new appointments. The Open Doors Community will be holding two separate farewell events:

Pastor Kalina Malua Katoa

Bishop Cedrick D. Bridgeforth intends to appoint Rev. Kalina Malua Katoa to serve Trinity United Methodist Church in Toledo, Oregon, effective July 1, 2023.

Pastor Malua Katoa is a provisional elder in the Oregon-Idaho Conference currently serving as a pastor in the Open Door Churches of Salem-Keizer, Oregon. Her new appointment to Trinity UMC Toledo will be half-time.

We send our prayers and blessings to Pastor Kalina as she heads out to her new church appointment.

Pastor Kalina’s celebration was held at Trinity UMC on June 4th.

Music in Bloom Concert

Morningside UMC Sanctuary

Mark your calendars for Morningside UMC's “Music in Bloom” FunRaiser, June 17th at 2:00 PM, in the Morningside UMC Sanctuary. We are suggesting a donation of $10 per person or $20 per family. No tickets will be sold in advance.

Music is a kind of garden which can be viewed and heard any season, anytime, anywhere. Each note is like a seed ready to be planted into a concoction of song. These songs blossom through the sounds of voices and musical instruments.

Come and join us for a celebration of music followed by a reception in Herrmann Hall. For more information contact Pastor Alyssa or Sharon Cooper or send an email to the church at umcmorningside@gmail.com.

June 21 is Make Music Day in Downtown Salem!

We are participating in this city wide event by having live music on the MICAH porch, hosted by Pastor John!

If there are people who would like to play some music, please contact Pastor John by email or leave a message with the church office, 503-364-6709.

There will be two blocks of times for this live music event, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5-7:00 p.m.

What to bring if you want to come listen:

Chairs or blankets to sit on if you want to stay and listen to music.

Don't forget your water!

Or just come and wander around downtown and check out all the different locations where there is live music! The link is here!

Save the date for Open Doors VBS coming up every Wednesday evening in August!

It will be from 5:30-7:30pm at our Morningside campus. It will be open to all kids ages pre-school through 5th grade.

We are currently looking for anyone who is interested in volunteering! If you are at all curious in how you could serve our young people, please email Lauren Keller at lauren.robby@gmail.com.

Hello Youth Friends! (I’m borrowing a phrase our friend Kift always liked to use!)

As you can see, the UMOI Camp dates are up and registration is active. I hope that your summer schedules will allow you to participate in one of the Summer Camp experiences this year. I am hopeful your families will be able to take advantage of the opportunity, so please keep these thoughts in mind …

• We have money available to help with camp registration fees! Any Open Door Churches youth participant in one of our Conference Summer Camp experiences can receive a 50% Scholarship from the Youth Fund just by asking. And, if you need more help, please contact me so I can help find a way to make this happen.
• I am hoping to work at one of the camps where some of our youth are going, so please let me know what camp you’re hoping to attend. I want to support our youth and their families with my time this summer.
