What is it they say, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb?  Not sure but we do have alot going on here this month.  We have programs for all ages from Baby's and books through pre-teen safety at home.  We take a look at some local wildlife and discuss the benefits of a plant based diet.  And to top it off, we'll be holding the annual Spring Book sale.  Hope you'll stop by this month and check out (pun totally intended) what we've got for you here at the Library.
Home Alone, Staying Safe Course

For those parents who may be concerned about leaving their children home alone for any stretch of time, we have a plan. Representatives from the company South Shore Safety will be at the library presenting a course for young people, Home Alone, Staying Safe. This 3 hour course is meant for children in grades 4-6, and will cover a range of topics that include:
  • Safety to and from school
  • Basic self-defense moves and verbal assertiveness
  • Food/cooking safety
  • Choking prevention and Heimlich maneuver
  • Basic first aid and handling emergencies
  • Handling fears
There is a $20 fee for this course and this must be paid in full by March 19 by dropping off a check to the children's desk. If we do not have your payment by this date we will offer the seat to a child on the wait list.

Curious about a healthy plant-based diet? Research suggests that a vegetarian or primarily plant-based diet can prevent many chronic diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Join us and Certified Plant-Based Chef and Food for Life Instructor Tracie Hines as we explore the wonderful world of plant-based cuisine. Tracie will share tips for nutrition and cooking, including recipes to take home, and discuss the many health and ecological benefits of plant-focused eating. New Library Service - Renewal by Phone

The Nevins Library has a helpful new service for our patrons!  It's called the Library Renewal Line, and it makes it easy to renew materials or check your holds right over the phone.  All you need to do is call
978-683-3175 and have your library card number ready.  You will need the library barcodes of the items you'd like to renew as well.  One of the great things about this service is that you can use it 24 hours a day - even when the library is closed.  The service can also remind you of when items are due, just in case you have misplaced the due date cards.  We're very excited to have this service available to you!
