Parisian Cafes and Impressionist Painting
Sunday, March 5 at 3 pm via Zoom

We continue our online European Art Series on with Parisian Cafes and Impressionist Painting.

Impressionist artists are celebrated for their beautiful depictions of nature, but they also frequented the cafes, bars and nightclubs of Paris and captured modern life in their works. This program will explore the images by Monet, Renoir, Degas and others and consider how the hub of activity in Parisian cafes inspired some of the world’s most famous artists.

This is a program held over Zoom, so please register through the link below, and you will be sent a Zoom link ahead of the program.

What's Happening in Youth Services?
New Storytimes & Murphy the Dog is Back!
March not only brings some new programs to the Youth Services Department, but it also marks the return of Murphy the Dog!

After a relaxing vacation in warmer climes, Murphy is back to enjoy hearing your children read aloud to him – sign up for the session on March 23, and keep an eye out for future visits from Murphy in the months ahead!

As for new programs, if you have a baby 18 months or younger then you’ll want to check out our Sensory Baby program, which gives our littlest patrons a variety of fun ways to explore their tactile world. Likewise, our Sensory Playtime program offers older children (ages 2-6) the chance to engage their senses and imaginations at stations offering various tactile experiences too.

Also new this month is a Zoom In! storytime – if it would make your life easier to listen to read-alouds with your kids from the comfort of your home, then tune in to this evening online storytime! (Be sure to register via the button below so that we can send you the Zoom link.)

Last but not least, we’re offering another Special Storytime this month: Superintendent Brandi Kwong will stop by to read aloud some of her favorite children’s books!

And speaking of reading, don’t forget that our Winter Reading challenge runs through March 18 – read as many minutes as you can, record your progress on Beanstack, and maybe win a prize. Use the button below for details – it’s not too late to get started!

Looking ahead to next month (but you can register beginning on March 15), we’ll be offering a Babysitter Safety Training for kids in grades 6-8 on April 20. When parents entrust their children to a babysitter, they feel more secure with, and are more likely to hire, someone who has Babysitter Safety Training. Students in this program will learn about infant and child care, child development, basic first aid, choking and injury prevention, and more. The program costs $40; register 3/15-4/10 and, to secure your registration, bring payment to the Children’s Room by 4/10.

As ever, we’ll also have our usual variety of preschool programs, storytimes, book groups, and teen/tween programs -- keep an eye on the Youth Services calendar and Facebook page to learn about upcoming programs!

Happy March, and Happy Reading!
