Three Kings High School seniors have been named semifinalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) mailed Certificates of Merit to principals across the country, notifying them of the students who have advanced to Semifinalist standing in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Congratulations to Katie Gabert, Carson Miller, and John Ulm who are among 16,000 students from across the nation competing for $30 million in scholarships.

To qualify as a semifinalist, students earned top scores on the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Millions of students in tens of thousands of high schools take the exam each year. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Community Learning Series
We have added a Community Learning Series event in October!

Don't miss ENDING THE SILENCE, the next Community Learning Series on Thursday, October 28 at6:00 p.m. Location/link TBD.

Ending the Silence is an engaging presentation about mental health for middle and high school students, parents, and school staff. Specifically, Ending the Silence for Families is a module designed for parents and caregivers of young students. In presentations, a lead presenter shares an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition shares their journey of recovery.

The presentation gives an opportunity for audience members to ask questions and learn more about an often-misunderstood topic. The message of empathy and hope encourages people to actively care for themselves and for their peers, whether by reaching out for help, encouraging a friend or family member to seek help or by reducing stigma.

The goal of NAMI ETS is to create a generation of individuals who are well-positioned to end the silence and stigma surrounding mental illness.
Topics include:
  • Signs and symptoms of mental illness and suicide
  • Statistics on how mental illness affects youth
  • Personal perspectives on the experience of living with mental illness
  • Recovery and coping strategies and resources available
  • Ways to seek help for themselves, a child or for a friend
  • Ways to help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness
  • How to work with school staff to get help for your child

You can register for the event here.
The Character Effect
Last year began the rollout of The Character Effect, a universal social and emotional learning program that improves the culture of our school's community by building on everyone's innate strengths, in grades K-6.

That program has been a success so far and is now being used in our Kings Kids Preschool! Preschool teacher, Theresa Frazier shared that her class learned how to spot strength in themselves and others last week. They LOVED making strength spotting magnifying glasses and handing strength tickets out to their peers!

Mark your calendars! Parents/Caregivers-please join The Character Effect Team for some upcoming FREE virtual events.
