From the President's Desk

*****Happy October!

*****Hurricane Ian definitely put a damper on some of our programs and events as we transitioned to this month. But we can’t downplay how fortunate we are!

*****Our Annual Meeting & Awards Breakfast was among the postponements. We’re delighted that we could reschedule it quickly to next Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort. All reservations made for Sept. 27 are in stone! And we’ve reopened sales thru this week for those who had a conflict with the earlier date. See info/link below.

*****This month starts a new Chamber Program Year under the catchphrase “It’s Great to Belong – The WE Approach!” We’ll be working to heighten our visibility and relevance while expanding and celebrating our community partnerships.

*****This will be under the direction of our Chamber Board of Directors “Class of 2023” who we’ll officially welcome at the breakfast. My personal thanks to them for their commitment. I’ve included our Board roster below and you can always find it on our website.

*****Wishing you all a healthy and prosperous month. And thank you for your continued Chamber support and loyalty!

*****Tom Morrissette, President

Visit Florida is trying to make sure those seasonal tourists rebook somewhere in Florida. The challenge is to keep the state’s hospitality businesses from sustaining another devastating blow during the usual busy winter season.

Rapid rise in gas prices wipes out most tax holiday savings in Florida

Days after Florida’s monthlong gas-tax holiday took effect on Oct. 1, global oil prices spiked and triggered a quick rise in retail gas prices that wiped out most of the savings.

Hurricane Ian forecast cone may have been cone of confusion for some people

The hurricane forecast cone was introduced in 2002 as a way to communicate the track of an incoming storm to the public. It has been maligned, misunderstood and regretted ever since.
