Message from the Mayor

Hello everyone,

We are starting August with incredible momentum. Over 60 percent of adults in the County of Lambton are now fully vaccinated and the impact of vaccines is not going unnoticed. As vaccination rates increase, COVID-19 cases and related hospitalizations continue to lower.

As a result, Ontario is now in step three of the reopening plan and many businesses in Lambton Shores have started to reopen. These businesses have shown tremendous resilience over the last year and a half. I encourage everyone to be patient as they begin to retool and implement new safety measures that keep their staff and customers safe. And, most importantly, to continue supporting them as much as possible. More information about step three of the reopening plan and the municipal impacts can be found below.

I am hopeful that we can keep the momentum going through August and continue the safe return to normal. If you have not yet registered for your second dose, please do so as soon as you can. If you received your first dose 28 days ago or more, you are eligible to book your second. Information is available on the Lambton Public Health website: GetTheVaccine.ca

Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your summer,

Mayor Bill
COVID-19: Municipal Update

On July 16, Ontario advanced to the third step of the Roadmap to Reopen plan. Step Three focuses on expanding outdoor gatherings and resuming additional indoor services with public health and safety measures in place.

Full details about step three can be found in the provincial regulations.

We have also provided a glance at the municipal impacts of entering Step Three in Lambton Shores. Staff will continue to monitor any changes made by the Province.

During Step Three of the reopening plan, Municipal Offices remain closed to the public. During these measures:

  • Municipal staff are working during this time and may be reached by phone and email.
  • Services such as building permits and licencing continue to be offered by appointment.
  • Municipal services such as road maintenance, water and wastewater operations, waste collection and fire/emergency response remain unaffected

Community Grants and Vibrancy Fund Programs

The Community Grant Program provides limited financial assistance to community groups and organizations within the Municipality to help with programs, projects or special events. The program exists to recognize the value of these groups to the well-being and growth of the community and in helping the Municipality retain a strong community focus.

Groups can apply for:
  1. Financial assistance
  2. Facility rental fee waivers
  3. Staff support

The Community Vibrancy Fund was developed through the Municipality's agreement with Jericho Wind, LP (Cordelio Power, formerly NextEra). It offers financial assistance to programs, projects, services or activities that enhance the quality of life for residents in the areas of health, arts, culture, leisure, heritage, recreation, education, and the environment.

Applications for the 2022 Community Grant and Vibrancy programs are due by 4:30 p.m. on September 15, 2021. Applications and more information can be found online

Public Consultation: Short-Term Rentals

The Municipality of Lambton Shores' public consultation regarding short term rentals (STRs) is underway. The consultation aims to investigate the impact of STRs and identify public opinion regarding licensing and regulatory options.

The public can still submit their feedback using an online survey. The survey will be available until September 15, 2021. If you haven't already, you can complete the survey online. Survey results will be limited to one per household.

Additional consultation phases are still to come, which will include:
  • Stakeholder meetings (by invitation)
  • Direct mail to short-term rental property owners

More information about the consultation process can be found online in our information portal.
COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout

On July 20th, the Lambton COVID-19 Immunization Task Force held its final meeting to discuss updates to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and to review plans for winding down Lambton Public Health's mass immunization clinics.
