We Did It! We've Already Reached
Our Community Goal
With your help, we've already reached our goal of reading 250,000 minutes. Now let's keep it going! Can we get to 300,000 minutes before summer ends?
Our Summer Reading Programs for all ages are underway, so sign up anytime between now and August 26 to join in the fun and possibly win some very cool prizes.
As part of The First Lady of the Commonwealth & Blades Summer Reading Challenge, libraries that meet their community reading goals are entered into a drawing for a chance to win Boston Bruins prizes, including game experiences, signed pucks, signed sticks, and signed jerseys. If we win, we raffle off the prize to our readers.
Find out more details about our summer reading programs in this newsletter, on our website, by calling 508/946-2470, or by visiting our Facebook page.
The challenge is a collaboration between the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC), the First Lady of the Commonwealth Lauren Baker, and the Boston Bruins. The Statewide Summer Library program is made possible with support from the Boston Bruins, the Massachusetts Library System and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners with Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

"Book Blurbs" -- What We've Been Reading
Periodically, we bring you a brief Book Blurb from the staff about what we've been reading/watching/playing. This week, a pair of recommendations from Children's Librarian Amanda Meyer and Library Technician Meg Desrosiers.
Amanda recommends:
I loved this first book in the Wizards of Once series. It takes place in a world with wizards and warriors. A wizard prince without magic meets a warrior princess who is anything but a fierce fighter. When a common threat returns to their world they must find a way to work together. The audiobook is read by David Tennant. (I'll admit I'm still a fan of the television show Dr. Who with Tennant at the helm.) Full of fantasy and adventure, this series would be great for middle grade readers and those that enjoy the Harry Potter or Percy Jackson series.

Meg recommends:
If you’re a fan of Lianne Moriarty books, this book by Kimberly McCreight will appeal to you. A murder mystery/legal thriller that takes place in an upscale Brooklyn neighborhood, it will keep you guessing until the end. The story is told from the perspective of several different female characters who all have marriages that may seem perfect on the outside but behind closed doors, it's a very different story.
McCreight’s characters are well-developed and her attention to detail really makes the book come to life. I couldn’t put this one down and just when I thought I had it figured out, the author threw in a new plot twist. This is one of those books that you can’t wait to get to the end of to figure out the mystery but also are disappointed that it’s over.
