The Days Are Long - But the Years Are Short!
|
|
As we anticipate the end of winter and the arrival of spring; the muffled sounds of winter will be replaced with sounds of new beginnings: chirping songbirds, humming garden equipment, roaring motorized vehicles, and laughing and squealing children at play. The warmer and longer sunlit days ignite trapped energy for all living things.
Our families will welcome mask free days with mixed emotions. Days without COVID restrictions will be huge adjustments for everyone.
As families, the demands of children in the coming months will return us to days requiring unlimited energy and patience.
Let’s embrace our children’s positive energy and enthusiasm while never losing site of the gift of youth.
— REMEMBER —
The days may be long BUT the years are short !

CLEC taking part in Hats on for Healthcare - February 2020
The 13th Annual Hats on for Healthcare campaign is taking place March 2 - 30, 2022!
Hats On For Healthcare is now in its 13th year and has raised more than $450,000 for programs and services at Windsor Regional Hospital.
Participation is easy! Teams and individuals are invited to wear their most unique and creative headwear and fundraise in support of critically needed medical equipment for our community.
The 2022 Hats On For Healthcare event will support Windsor Regional Hospital's new Mental Health Program at the Ouellette Campus of Windsor Regional Hospital.
The Program includes an Assessment Centre, Psychiatric Intensive Care (8 beds) and Acute Care Care units (60 beds). A multidisciplinary team of professionals including nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, family practice physicians, and psychiatrists work with individuals, families, and community partners to provide intervention, treatment and promote recovery.
Funds raised will support the purchase of medical equipment, furnishings, and items that support patients while on the unit.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Hats On For Healthcare event will look a bit different this year, but still promises to be as fun as ever! Though they are unable to host in-person gatherings, they have created several new ways in which you can virtually participate and fundraise!
Put on your best hat, register now, and help make a difference for healthcare in Windsor-Essex!
If your organization is participating in person this year, please review the current social distancing and gathering protocols as outlined by the Health Unit, the Government of Canada, and Government of Ontario Health & Safety Guidelines in place during COVID-19.

Healthy living means making positive choices that enhance your personal physical, mental and spiritual health. You make these choices when you:
-
follow Canada’s food guide’s healthy eating recommendations to make healthy food choices and build healthy eating habits
- build a circle of social contacts to create a supportive environment of people who care for you and respect you
- stay physically active to keep your body strong, reduce stress, and improve your energy
- put an end to other negative lifestyle practices
Healthy living choices are affected by where you live, work, learn and play. Keeping yourself informed about positive health practices within your environment is an important way to improve your overall health and sense of well-being.
Healthy eating is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle, regardless of age. Healthy eating ensures your body gets all the nutrients it needs. It also helps reduce your risk of developing chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
It’s recommended to have a healthy pattern of eating most of the time. Healthy eating doesn’t mean you have to give up your favourite foods, but try to choose healthier options more often. The pattern of eating over longer periods of time is more important than any one meal or food.
It's Your Health (IYH) is a joint publication produced by Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada that provides information you can trust on a wide range of health and safety issues.

Embroidery
While embroidery may seem like a detailed and intricate process, the supplies you'll need are fairly simple - and none of them are overly pricey. You'll need an embroidery hoop and some kind of needlework fabric to help you keep all the stitches in order. You'll also need needles and embroidery thread.
While you don't need it, tracing paper is usually only a few dollars and can be very helpful when you're putting your initial design onto the fabric. You can also pick up a pre-printed canvas or an embroidery kit.
Supplies:
- Embroidery hoop
- Needles
- Embroidery thread
- Embroidery scissors
- Tracing paper
- Needlework fabric
Check out the below video to learn the top 10 embroidery stitches.
