Earn a FREE Day at a

Greater LA Scouting Camp

Interested in spending a day at camp with your unit for free? Well, we have a great incentive for you: Free Camp LA! Exceed the number of Scouts that you recruit by 12% and earn a free day at camps Trask, Cabrillo, or Firestone. This 12% growth rate will be based on the number of Scouts enrolled in your unit as of December 31st, 2021, to December 15th, 2022. All units will be notified of their final growth rate and those who qualify for the incentive will be instructed on how to claim their free day at camp.

Emerging from the National BSA Bankruptcy

We are now on the precipice of emergence from the National BSA Bankruptcy through the recent confirmation of the BSA’s plan by Judge Silverstein and are now awaiting affirmation from the U.S. District Court.

Greater Los Angeles Area Council’s part in this journey is nearly complete, with the contribution of $8 million in assets to the National BSA Settlement Trust. We are meeting this commitment through the sale/disposition of non-core assets including the sale of the Firestone cell towers, previous sale of Holcomb Valley, and pending sale of unused land at Hubert Eaton Scout Reservation. Funds will not come from operating or endowment funds. Current donor contributions will not be used. Donor support will remain local to continue to deliver a high-quality program for Scouts in the LA area.

Thank you for your patience throughout this process and for your continued support of Greater LA Scouting!

Training For All

Check out the upcoming Training that the High Adventure Team (HAT) is hosting in the upcoming months.

IOLS at Firestone,

November 5 & 6, 2022

This hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specific, this course is required of all direct contact leaders in order to be considered “trained.” (Scoutmaster Specific Training recommended prior to attendance at IOLS).

The Great California Shake Out

The Great California Shake Out is an annual opportunity to practice how to be safer during big earthquakes: "Drop, Cover and Hold On." At 10:20 a.m. on October 20, 2022, millions of Californians will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” in The Great California Shake Out, the state’s largest earthquake drill! All individuals and families are encouraged to participate, either on their own or as part of a larger group. Major earthquakes may happen anywhere you live, work, or travel. The Shake Out is our chance to practice how to protect ourselves, and for everyone to become prepared. The goal is to prevent a major earthquake from becoming a catastrophe for you, your organization, and your community.
