And we thought last month was busy for offshore wind development. Wow, I have quite the update for you!

Biden-Harris Administration Sets Offshore Energy Records with $4.37 Billion in Winning Bids for Wind Sale

After 64 rounds of bidding, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) concluded the 3-day "Lease-O-Rama" for the six areas in the NY Bight. The total cost of bids was $4.37 billion- meaning this was the highest-grossing offshore energy lease in history, including leasing for oil and gas.

Climate Jobs NY and our partners in Wind Works Long Island have worked tirelessly to see this through to the finish line. As a reminder, stipulations for these areas include a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) requirement and incentives for domestic supply chain manufacturing which will not only provide a more secure energy future, but help put New Yorkers to work on projects and the related onshore build-out. I spoke in detail about the economic, social, and environmental impacts the NY Bight offers in an interview with Edison Energy. Check it out!

South Fork Ground Breaking

Earlier this month, we broke ground on NY's first offshore wind project, South Fork Wind! This has been a long time coming, and it was a true privilege to attend. The 12-turbine, 130-MW project will provide clean energy to 70,000 homes in the South Fork of Long Island and create hundreds of good union jobs. Onshore construction for the cabling has begun with offshore work expected to begin in early 2023.
