It’s been an intense couple of weeks for Reunion Church. The last few weeks have been full of prayer, full of seeking the Lord’s protection and wisdom, and full of drawing near to each other. We have quite a lot to update you on.

The Bad News
Our lead pastor, Andrew Morrison, had a massive heart attack on the night of April 7th. The ‘widowmaker’ heart attack (as they call it) has only a 12% survival rate. They don’t follow the normal signs and often affect those without pre-existing conditions. The Lord undoubtedly had His hand over Andrew and their family. This was definitely an unexpected incident, and it hit us all quite hard. The thought of losing one of our core team members and a dear friend was unbearable.

Our team met a few days later and collectively decided to slow down and wait for our friend to heal up before moving forward with any large scale plans for the church plant.
The Good News
Andrew is currently doing very well health-wise. He is at 90% and should be at a full recovery in May. The doctors do not believe there will be any permanent damage. We are still moving forward with Reunion Church, but at a pace on par with God’s plan for us.

Andrew was even able to join us on the 18th with our Vision Night for Reunion Church. It was an incredible night of reuniting with old friends and meeting new ones as we cast vision of how this church would impact this side of Commerce City. Our biggest takeaway from the evening was the strong interest from those in the community resonating with our vision, values, and mission.

One standout comment was that people are feeling isolated together online. Meeting virtually is an adequate way of connecting, but it is definitely not ideal. With Colorado moving to Code Blue and beginning to open up, we are hopeful that our little church can create the space needed for a community that has been disconnected for so long.
This past Thursday and Friday, our team went through an extensive church plant training bootcamp through the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches (FEC) and Synergy Church Planting Network. Through their 2-day course, we discussed how to be a healthy and productive team. Knowing what will work for us, along with knowing some pitfalls to prepare for will be so helpful as we really get rolling in the summer.
We cannot thank you enough for your support. All the messages we’ve been receiving have been extremely encouraging as we step out in faith as one team. We can’t wait to see what God has next for us. Stay tuned on updates for the summer as we continue to build this new community together.
What You Can Be Praying For
  1. Please pray for Andrew’s continued recovery, and for the health (the physical, emotional, and spiritual health) of our team.
  2. Please pray as we work towards expanding the launch team to meet the needs and responsibilities we have as a church. Please pray especially for a worship leader that can join our team, and for a leader to emerge from Reunion who already has connections in the area.
  3. Please pray for clarity as we adapt to the new normal. Please pray that we would have one heart and one mind as we adjust the plans we had originally had for our launch.
