Parish Newsletter June 2023
Message From Father Angi

Every vocation—the vocation to the priesthood, the vocation to marriage, the vocation to the single life—has its joys, its struggles, its challenges, and its disappointments. In every vocation perseverance is needed, perseverance that comes from God’s grace, and is rooted in prayer.
This weekend we thank God for helping Fr. King persevere joyfully in his service as a priest for the last 50 years. I ask you to pray for Fr. King, that God will continue to grant him grace to serve us for a long time from now. Congratulations Fr. King on this momentous occasion. Fr. King will celebrate an anniversary Mass on Saturday, June 3 to mark this day.
The ultimate question for any person in any vocation is this one: Would you do it again? If you could go back in time and had the chance to start over, would you choose the same path? I believe Fr. King would say, Without question! In spite of all the difficulties and challenges, he would be glad he made the choice he did and so are we.
Hopefully, you are also glad in your vocations as mothers, fathers, permanent deacons, and single folks. Please pray for Fr. King and for all priests every day, that we will always be faithful to the awesome call that we’ve received from Jesus Christ.

Sincerely,

Fr. Steve

Help Us Fund the Fr. Tom King Burse

Please give to the Fr. Tom King Burse at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology in honor of Fr. King’s dedication to Guardian Angels and the 50th anniversary of his ordination. The $50,000 scholarship will support the education and formation expenses for Archdiocese of Cincinnati seminarians. Fr. King is a 1973 alumnus of MTSM and ordained the same year. Gifts can be made outright or pledged for a total of five years. Please click here or scan the QR code to give. If you prefer to give using a check, please make the check out to Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology and drop it off at the parish office.
Beautifying Our Church

Guardian Angels Church is our place for worship and giving praise to our Lord. It has been in need of renewal in several areas and it is important to address the necessary improvements now for the benefit of our current and future parishioners. The lighting system is inefficient, outdated, and improving it will significantly reduce our energy costs. The ceiling tiles and vents in the wings of the church are discolored or damaged and need replacement. The pews were originally used in the basement church then moved to our current church and are now at the end of their useful life. Most kneelers are missing pads with several kneelers damaged, the wood veneer on many pews is chipped or cracked, and hymnal holders are broken. The flooring/carpeting is badly worn and stained, and extensive painting has not been done in 30+ years.

A Beautification Committee was formed by our Parish Council pre-COVID to address these concerns and, with Father Angi’s concurrence, the Committee was recently reactivated and directed to work with our Parish Business Manager, Mark Dulle, to develop a plan of action. The current Committee members are: Rick Oberschmidt, Chairman; Deacon Brice Berger, Julie Bruns, Mirna Feghali, Mark Gillming, Don King, Kathy King, and Dick Vogelgesang.

This Committee has divided the needed work into two phases:

The first phase is focused on some improvement opportunities that can be accomplished in Summer 2023 – e.g., LED lighting, ceiling and vent work. The new lighting will provide twice the light for 80% less energy, as well as less maintenance since LEDs are longer-lasting bulbs. Importantly, there will be better lighting throughout the body of the church as well as the altar, tabernacle and statues, and we expect significant payback due to energy and maintenance savings. We are also considering restoring the Stations of the Cross from the old church building which have been stored in the rectory attic for many years.

The second phase, which we hope to schedule for Summer 2024, will include new flooring and painting throughout, and new pews and kneelers. This phase requires more lead-time and planning. There could be some artistic work included in this phase as well.

The Committee is excited about this opportunity to improve and upgrade our worship space and experience. This is important work and a necessary investment in our parish community and family for the future.

Over the next few weeks, cost estimates will be refined, required funding identified and a fundraising program determined.

We are now at the point where we need your input, so we are soliciting your thoughts on our current plans as well as suggestions or ideas for any other improvements to the interior of our church. We welcome you to reach out to anyone on this Committee or invite you to email us at chbeauty@gaparish.org.
Giving Back to Guardian Angels

At Guardian Angels, we are a parish that cares for the poor, supports missions in our own land and in other nations, and thinks of others before ourselves. We embrace stewardship as a way to give our time, talents, and treasure to serve God through the gifts He has bestowed upon us. The services our parish provides are only possible through donations. Financial stewardship supports our parish through staff wages, maintenance and grounds, and tuition stipends, just to name a few.

As a parish, we have not asked our families to increase their giving in over three years. Without this support, our parish will not be able to serve the Guardian Angels community. Just as the pandemic and inflation has impacted so many, it has impacted Guardian Angels parish as well. We are enduring rising prices to maintain our ministries. Our goal is to increase our overall offertory giving by 6% so that we can continue to serve to the best of our ability.
Whatever our circumstances, we are all being called in this moment into a loving relationship with God and each other. We ask that you spend time in prayer and reflect on how God is calling you to be the person He created you to be – grateful and generous – and how you can share your gifts and talents with our community.
Welcome Sarah Heard, Youth Ministry Intern

Sarah is from the Loveland area and attended Mount Notre Dame High School. She is studying Pastoral Ministry at Marian University in Indianapolis, where she just completed her junior year. Her passion for the church and growing in faith with others has fueled her interest in working with youth and young adults on their faith journeys. Upon graduation next May, Sarah hopes to work in youth or campus ministry.

Sarah will support Bradley Barnes this summer in serving the St. Gregory the Great family of parishes, learning the ins and outs of youth ministry, and working with students.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee and going on walks with her furry friend, Bo.

Please give her a big #GAIsFamily greeting as you see her around campus this summer!
2023-2024 Head Servers

Congratulations to our newly appointed Head Servers for the 2023-2024 school year—Henry Froehlich, Moira Kapp, Sophia Luttmer, and Hugh McElroy. May God bless them in their ministry to our parish!
Cookie Ministry

Thank you for your donations to the Cookie Ministry this year. The Peanut Butter group really appreciates your support. They minister to the needy at St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen all year, so your donations over the summer are much needed. They put together a lunch sack on Tuesday mornings, so your donations should be dropped off on Mondays. Your donation of cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats, etc adds a sweet treat to the lunches our peanut butter group makes for the needy of the St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen. Treats can be homemade or store-bought, but should be individually packaged (2 cookies per bag). They are also in need of juice boxes or pouches and prepackaged snacks like chips, pretzels, cheez-its, etc.

If you would like to help put together the lunches or drive them down to St. Francis Seraph, contact Kathy Hosking at 513-232-0958. Thank you for your help!
Greeters and Gift Bearers

Greeters and gift bearers are needed for all 3 weekend Masses. Sign up here.

Please consider helping out in these important ministries! This helps the ushers prepare for Mass and not have to scramble to find gift bearers last minute.
Registration Is Open For 2023-2024 CCD Classes

Guardian Angels offers Religious Education for the children in our parish who do not attend GA school. Our CCD program for the upcoming school year will be on campus only. Any child who wishes to receive First Holy Communion or Confirmation should be registered in CCD at least 1 year prior to receiving the sacrament. Those wishing to enroll their children in CCD grades K-8 can find registration information on the parish website. Go to Religious Education then CCD. Click here to register and pay.

Get your registrations in today to make sure your child is enrolled! Classes begin Sunday, September 10. Know a family who may be interested in CCD? Feel free to pass on the information!
Update from Guardian Angels Cemetery

Trees, shrubs, and other plants often contribute to the character of the cemetery landscape. Over time, plants mature and decline due to age and diseases. Dead trees, branches, and plants can pose threats to visitors and monuments throughout the cemetery.
This past winter and spring, we have seen an influx of strong winds and storms — causing widespread power outages and uprooted trees. Despite our grounds maintenance and proactive upkeep, it is necessary to remove both of the large pine trees at the top of the cemetery near the columbarium to ensure the safety of our visitors, monuments, and headstones.
Bible Camp

Please pray for our youngest angels participating in our summer Bible Camp June 19-22. Junior high and high school volunteers are still needed. Click here for more information.

School News
Enrollment Open For 2023-2024 School Year

Enrollment is now open for all students entering preschool through eighth grade for the 2023-2024 school year. You'll find all the information you need on the school website.

If you missed our Open House events but would still like to learn more about our school, we invite you to take a personal tour. A tour allows you to meet with our administration to discuss the classes and programs available through GA and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. These are typically done during school hours so you can see what a typical day is like for students. Call the school office at (513)624-3141 to schedule a tour.
School Playground Hours

We want to remind everyone of the hours of operation for our newer playground equipment. The portion of the playground that was installed last year sits outside the area where our old equipment sat. Since it is outside the mulch area and is now closer to other property lines, the portion of the equipment with the slide CANNOT be used outside of the posted playground operating hours. Those hours are 8:00am-6:00pm.
