New Employee Assistance Program
goes live September 1
|
|
The past few years have been challenging for all of us, but we've also seen and experienced incredible dedication and resilience. As healthcare professionals, we face unique challenges that can significantly affect our personal and professional lives.
We partnered with VITAL WorkLife to provide all associates an external resource that offers free and confidential behavioral support, coaching, and legal & financial services. These services will help you and your family analyze, address, and resolve problems. (Click the flyer, above right, to enlarge.)
These resources are available as of September 1 to all CHCS associates and extended family members, including spouse, partner, children, siblings, and parents – even if they reside in another state! Resources include:

NEKSHCC donates equipment to CHCS
|
|
The Northeast Kansas Healthcare Coalition, or NEKSHCC, recently donated three pieces of equipment to Community HealthCare System. The equipment was worth more than $1,000 and included one each of the following:
- Microsoft Surface Laptop Go
- 3M Littmann CORE Stethoscope
- ChoiceMMed Oxywatch Fingertip Pulse Oximeter
The stethoscope is a specialized instrument with features such as sound amplification, noise cancellation, and connection to software that helps detect heart murmurs and arrythmia.
Physician Assistant Jeremy Brandt is using the new stethoscope.
“I appreciate the donation from the NEKSHCC. I've wanted to try an amplified stethoscope for a while. There is no question that heart sounds are louder with it, and when the stethoscope is paired via Bluetooth with the Eko app and noise canceling is employed, the sounds are very crisp,” Brandt said.
CHCS plans to use the laptop for staff to check out when they need to work offsite, and the pulse oximeter, a small device that clips onto a finger and measures how much oxygen is in someone’s blood, will be allocated to a clinic or a patient in need.

Digital parenthood is filled with difficult decisions and unanswered questions. We get it: Raising kids in this digital age is hard. But it's even harder to do it alone.
That's why the Mental Health Committee is bringing you Screen Sanity, a highly acclaimed program designed to help parents unpack the hottest screen time topics. We'll learn about and discuss:
- Side effects of unhealthy screen use
- How to develop a family screen plan that supports your values
- How to have confidence in serving as a mentor/guide for your children in a digital world
- and more!
Sign up to join a small group on Mondays starting September 12! Choose from three times: 7:30 a.m., 12:15 p.m., or 7:00 p.m. Each group will meet for 5 weeks, and each session lasts 45 minutes (two brief videos and a discussion). Zoom links will be available as well an in-person meeting space in Onaga.
After you sign up and choose which time slot you prefer, you'll receive an email with details and instructions on registering through the Screen Sanity portal.

Delivering the WOW Experience
|
|
Shannon Heim, St. Marys Manor Administrator, recently shared a WOW experience. She wrote the following:
"Amanda and Emma Monteleone are both Cooks in our Dietary Department (as well as sisters). Most days when their shifts are complete, they clock out and spend 1:1 time with our residents. They sit and chat with them, hold their hands and sometimes play a game during an organized activity. Both girls are very humble, and I know they don't do it for the attention or shout-out, but I want them to know how special I think this is. Some of our residents don't get many visitors, so these girls spending their time off the clock to visit with them absolutely warms my heart. They are two of the kindest people I have ever met, and they have reminded me that it's ok to slow down sometimes and remember what's important. Quality time.
Amanda is currently enrolled in an online Dietary Manager Program through the University of North Dakota, and Emma recently enrolled in a CNA program. We are honored to have both of them on our team at St. Marys Manor!"
Thank you to Amanda and Emma for delivering the WOW experience for St. Marys Manor residents, and thanks to Shannon for taking time to recognize their kindness.
