The Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives Presents
2017 William M. Lowenstein Genealogy Program:

Genealogy & Genetic Diseases in Jewish Pittsburgh

The Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives' Lowenstein Genealogy Program
Sunday, April 2 | 10 a.m. to noon | Detre Library & Archives Reading Room
Admission is free with registration.

Join Dodie Roskies, director of JGenes Pittsburgh, Dr. David N. Finegold, MD, professor of Human Genetics at University of Pittsburgh Public Health, and the Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives at the Heinz History Center for a discussion of genetic diseases and the unique history of the Pittsburgh Jewish community as part of the 2017 William M. Lowenstein Genealogy Program, "Genealogy and Genetic Diseases in Jewish Pittsburgh."

For genealogists, DNA testing offers important insights into the past. For Ashkenazi (Central and Eastern European) Jews, it is also the key to a healthy future.

Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with medical professionals and genetic counselors to discuss genetic diseases, procedures and BRCA risks. Attendees 40 years old or younger may be eligible to receive genetic disease testing kits.

Admission to the program is free with pre-registration and includes light refreshments (dietary laws observed), thanks to the generosity of the William M. Lowenstein Genealogical Research Endowment Fund.

When registering online, please indicate whether you are interested in being tested and if so, submit your date of birth to verify your eligibility. If you are eligible to receive a testing kit, we will contact you prior to the program. Prepare to bring your insurance card and photo ID to the event. Test results are 100% confidential and test subjects will receive access to all necessary resources.

Space is limited, so please register online in advance.
