Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year

Dear Orange Families,

I am excited to welcome everybody to the 2022-2023 school year! I hope you had a great summer break. As discussed at last week’s Board meeting, we continue to put the finishing touches on the OHS renovation. While supply chain and workforce issues have slowed the project down a bit, we will be ready for students on Monday as we wrap up minor details.

PLEDGE TO RESPECT DIVERSITY

Also at last week’s Board meeting, the Board approved the revised OHS Athlete-Parent Handbook. As noted in various media reports following the meeting, we added a pledge to respect diversity. Considering the lacrosse incident this past spring and reports around the league in recent years, we added the pledge as a proactive measure to state clear expectations. In addition, a similar statement will be included in all varsity pre-game announcements. Here at Orange, we are proud of our diverse school community and see it as something to celebrate.

COVID-19 UPDATE

On the COVID-19 front, on Aug. 11, the CDC updated its guidance on how people can protect themselves and others from COVID-19, what actions to take if exposed to COVID-19, and what actions to take if you have symptoms or test positive with the virus. As a result, ODH is updating its guidance for Ohio K-12 schools and recommending the CDC’s general guidance to best protect Ohio’s students in the school setting.

Just like last year, the District will continue to provide test kits to staff and students when there are cases in the home or when they have symptoms of COVID-19. We will continue this practice as long as the state continues to make test kits available to the District. Likewise, we will continue updating the COVID-19 Dashboard to keep the entire school community aware of case counts in each building, and we will be mask optional for staff and students. In the event of clusters in particular classrooms, groups or teams, the Board of Health will be contacted to investigate and offer guidance.

STAY CONNECTED

We also invite you to check out several new communication tools we will be using this school year. The new District website features a responsive mobile design, improved navigation, and easier-to-find popular links. To go along with the new District website, there will soon be a smartphone app featuring access to the District calendar, staff directory, Progressbook, lunch menus, athletics, news, and more. The new District notification system will allow us to communicate with parents and staff via phone, text and email. It will be used for emergencies, news, and information. This year we have expanded the District FinalForms platform to include enrollments and annual forms (EMA, photo release, technology, etc.). Please be sure to complete your 2022-2023 forms in FinalForms if you haven't already.

Again, welcome to 2022-2023. I wish students, families and staff a wonderful year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Lynn Campbell
