PEORIA, IL (January 19, 2025) –The Peoria Zoo is thrilled to announce the addition of Karen Hocker as its new Food and Beverage Manager. A culinary expert and founder of the beloved local eatery, The Chef and the Baker, Karen brings a wealth of experience, creativity, and passion to this role.

Karen’s culinary journey spans more than a decade, including her time as owner of The Chef and the Baker, where she earned a reputation for her innovative menus and commitment to quality. Her leadership and talent elevated the establishment to a local favorite, and her deep ties to the Peoria community make her an invaluable addition to the Peoria Zoo team.

“We are excited to welcome Karen to the Peoria Zoo family,” stated Max Lakes, Peoria Zoo Director. “Her expertise in the culinary arts and her proven ability to deliver exceptional dining experiences will enhance the overall visitor experience. Karen’s vision aligns perfectly with our goal of making the Peoria Zoo a destination for both education and enjoyment.”

As the Food and Beverage Manager, Karen will oversee all culinary operations at the zoo, including menu development and the day-to-day management of the Zoo’s dining services. With a focus on incorporating fresh ingredients and offering a variety of family-friendly options, Karen is eager to create menus that delight guests of all ages.

“I am excited to join the Peoria Park District, as I have been a fan of theirs for years. Hopefully, we can enhance the Zoo experience with our warm hospitality, good eats and sweet treats,” said Karen Hocker.
