CERTIFIED TRAINING
FOR NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS
March 24, 2022
The New Officials Institute will be held virtually on March 24, 2022. This will be the last NOI training until June, 2022.
The NOI teaches the statutorily required topics such as Municipal Budget Requirements, the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act, the Oklahoma Open Records Act, Ethics, Procedures for Conducting Meetings, Conflict of Interest, and Purchasing Procedures.
State law requires each person elected or appointed for the first time as an officer of a municipality to attend an institute for municipal officials. The statute is codified at Title 11 O.S., Section 8-114.
Remember, you don't have to be new to attend. Everyone is welcome!

2022 "If I Were Mayor" Essay
Winners Announced

The Mayors’ Council of Oklahoma (MCO) and the Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) are pleased to announce the 2022 winners of the annual “If I Were Mayor” essay contest.
The essay contest provides an opportunity for 8th grade students from across Oklahoma to engage with their communities. The MCO asks that the Mayors in each community reach out to their 8th grade students to discuss the role that a Mayor has in municipal government, and the vital role that they have in leading a community.
The 2022 Winners are:
1st Place: Jet Thompson, Sallisaw Middle School, Brandy Reaves, teacher, Ernie Martens, Mayor
2nd Place: Eliana Roa, Shawnee Middle School, Heather DeShazer, teacher, Ed Bolt, Mayor

TSET Healthy Community Incentive Grant

The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) invites eligible cities and towns to apply for a TSET Healthy Community Incentive Grant beginning March 1, 2022. The application period will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022.
To be eligible, communities must first adopt health policies and implement practices encouraging tobacco-free environments, access to healthy and nutritious foods and opportunities for physical activity. Policy requirements focus on improving the health and quality of life for all Oklahomans by reducing risk factors for heart disease, stroke and cancer. More Information
