Next Board Meeting: September 29
The San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees will meet in person on September 29 (members of the public may also continue to attend the meetings via Zoom). 

The Closed Session portion of the board meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Open Session will begin at 7 p.m.

Starting September 29, the District will share a new Spotlight on Student Learning at each Board Meeting. On September 29, we’ll highlight academic progress on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASSP test); the California Science Test (CAST); and data around students who are on track for graduation. The report will include successes, areas for growth and current strategies to intervene or improve student results.

The San Mateo Union High School District and San Mateo High School turn 120 this year!

Please join us at an open house event at San Mateo High to celebrate this milestone on Saturday, October 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include tours of the school, performances by student groups and more. We hope to see you there!

StarVista also offers Teen Crisis Services which consist of an online teen chat and teen text line, both free, peer-to-peer services that are accessible from www.sanmateocrisis.org or by texting 650-747-6463.

Sustainability News
SMUHSD Receives $4.4 Million Grant for Eight Electric Buses
 
SMUHSD applied for grants from the Carl Moyer Program for replacement buses (electric) and for electric charging infrastructure. The District’s application was approved for $4.4 million which includes full funding of $400,000, each, for eight electric buses and associated infrastructure of $1.2 million.
At its September 15 Meeting, the SMUHSD Board of Trustees approved an agreement for zero emission planning infrastructure support to Sage Energy Consulting to begin to transition its bus fleet to electric buses. 

The California Air Resource Board (CARB)’s Carl Moyer Memorial Air Quality Standards Attainment (Carl Moyer) Program provides incentive grants for cleaner-than-required engines, equipment, and other sources of pollution providing early or extra emission reductions.

The District seeks to transition most of the bus fleet over the next 15 years.

San Mateo Police Department's Pink Patch Project October 2 Free Mammogram Event Flyer
Free Mammogram Event - Pink Patch Project - on October 2!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and this year the San Mateo Police Department has partnered with Maddy, the Mammo Coach to create the Pink Patch Party - a community event offering free mammograms on October 2.
In addition to free mammograms, the event will feature food, live music, raffles, and more.
Mammograms are free and welcome for anyone with/without insurance.

  • Mammogram appointments and walk up hours are as follows:
  • 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2 – 5 p.m.
  • Make an appointment
  • Walk-ups are from 12 – 2 p.m.

  • From 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. there will be music, food and games.

  • Location: Hillsdale Shopping Center, Barnes and Noble Parking Lot
