A Welcome Message from SCC's Superintendent-President
Welcome to Fall 2021! Here we are starting another academic year primarily in the remote environment. When we created the fall class schedule in February, we were not confident that the COVID virus or the variants would be under control so we created a mostly online schedule of classes and services. I hope that you have felt taken care of by faculty and staff even as we provide instruction and services remotely.

During the past year, we have made improvements to our campuses. We’ve taken precautions to ensure that our buildings are safe and are following protocols for updating air filters, social distancing, and sanitizing shared spaces. We know that accessing services online or through Zoom has been helpful for many of you. If you prefer in-person services, you can still access them by making an appointment. Tutoring, counseling, and quiet study space are just some of the in-person services available by appointment. The Bookstore is open Monday-Friday from 9am-2pm for those who prefer to come by to rent or purchase text books. Book and supply orders can still be placed online. If you have questions or need help finding resources, visit our academic support page. If you’re not sure what you need, just email us and we’ll help you. Remember, if you come to campus you must wear a mask while inside buildings, regardless of vaccination status.

We are committed to keeping everyone safe and to providing updated COVID information and resources, as we receive them. If COVID conditions or requirements change, we will let you know through Canvas, by email, through this newsletter and online at the Coronavirus Updates webpage. In addition to updates on this webpage, you’ll see the results of the Spring 2021 student survey. See what students said about online classes, COVID, and other issues, interests, and concerns. If you participated in this survey, we appreciate your feedback!

I know the past 18 months have not been easy.  I miss having you on campus and I hope all of us will be able to return to in-person instruction and services soon.

Celia

CourseKey to Enter Campus Facilities
Please remember that if you are coming to campus for in-person classes, you are to complete the CourseKey health questionnaire prior to entering campus buildings. If you are coming to campus to receive services including tutoring, counseling, etc., you will need to complete a health check questionnaire prior to receiving services. Please make sure to have your mask on before entering any buildings!

For students with in-person classes, CourseKey is a health check application that can be downloaded to your smart phone or lap top. If you are a student, please download the CourseKey app and use your email address on file with the college to login. Use the temporary password: Welcome123.

If you do not have a smart phone, you can access CourseKey through the following link: portal.thecoursekey.com. Your professor will have advised you if you are required to complete the CourseKey health questionnaire prior to attending class.

For those using CourseKey, if you receive a “red pass” after completing the CourseKey health questionnaire, you will be contacted by someone from Human Resources (HR) who will ask a number of COVID-related questions.  Do not enter a campus building unless you have a “green pass” or have been cleared by HR. If you receive a “red pass” and are not contacted by HR, do not enter the building and contact your professor(s) by email and notify him/her/them that you were not cleared to enter the building and will not be able to attend class. Someone from HR will contact you within 72 hours to assess your situation and determine when you can resume in-person classes.

Remember, masks are required when inside buildings regardless of vaccination status or your responses to the health questionnaire. We want to keep students and employees safe and COVID-free!

Athletics is Back | Congrats to Coach Williams
Athletics is back on campus with all teams practicing and preparing for their seasons. Volleyball and Women’s Soccer have begun fall competitions.
Men’s and Women’s Basketball’s seasons will begin in November, while Baseball, Softball, Men’s and Women’s Tennis and Swim/Dive will complete in the spring.

Athletics is currently following strict COVID protocols including on-campus COVID testing, mandatory masking in all facilities and symptom monitoring.

Congratulations to Coach Darla Williams! The Solano Community College volleyball team gave Williams her 300th career victory as coach of the Falcons by defeating Diablo Valley and Butte in the Solano Classic No. 1, Wednesday. The Falcons (4-4) rolled past Bay Valley Conference rival DVC, 25-11, 25-13, 25-8.

“We came from behind in the first set to pull out a victory,” Williams said. “After that we stayed strong and never looked back. This was a great win, and great challenge. Butte College is a very solid team and ranked in Northern California, two spots ahead of us.”
