NYC WILL REQUIRE VACCINATION
FOR INDOOR ACTIVITIES
This morning, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that New York City will soon require individuals to be vaccinated in order to participate in certain indoor activities.

Specifically, the “Key to NYC Pass” Program will require employees and customers to provide proof of vaccination status in order to participate in:

  • Indoor dining
  • Indoor fitness
  • Indoor entertainment and performance

At least one dose of the vaccine will be required in order to participate in these activities.

The “Key to NYC Pass” Program will launch August 16, 2021, but will not be enforced until September 13, 2021. Individuals will be able to show proof of vaccination status by providing a copy of their vaccination card, showing their Excelsior Pass or using the City’s “Key to NYC Pass” which will be launched soon.

It is expected that Mayor de Blasio will issue an Executive Order shortly implementing the “Key to NYC Pass” Program. It is also expected that the City will release a formal policy and guidance over the next few weeks.

At this time it is unclear whether individuals who cannot be vaccinated due to a disability or sincerely held religious belief will be permitted to participate in these indoor activities with a reasonable accommodation.
