ST. PHILIP CATHOLIC CHURCH & HOLY FAMILY

Rain or shine, our volunteers always show up and show out when we need them most! St. Philip Catholic Church Franklin banded together with Holy Family Catholic Church and braved the weather to help us caulk and paint the exterior of one of our homes.

Just when we needed the skies to clear, the rain stopped and these incredible volunteers trekked through the muck and the mud to dry, caulk and paint an ENTIRE house! If that isn't God's love in action, then we don't know what is! Forever blessed to share this community and our mission with volunteers like these.

MJM ARCHITECTS

MJM Architects joined us this month to build and bring a pop of color to a home! We tasked their team to help seal and paint the future home of Nina Reyes and boy did they knock it out of the park!

In less than a day, this crew caulked, cleaned, and painted Nina's entire house - we were blown away by their skill and determination to get it done!

ST. PETERS EPISCOPAL

Volunteers from St. Peter's Episcopal Church rolled into the weekend with the determination to get it done!

Our goal was to prime the walls and ceilings throughout the entire house and this crew went above and beyond. They primed in record time y'all and we couldn't have been more pleased with the results.

Give it up to these volunteers!

ROLLICK & ROLL

Our crew had a blast participating in the Rotary Club of Downtown Franklin's first ever Rollick and Roll. All proceeds from this community-wide field day will be used to build the first inclusive playground in Franklin, TN!

The park will be named in memory of Elliot Grace Castro, known as Ellie G, who passed away at the age of 4 in September 2019. Ellie had a rare, terminal form of dwarfism called Rhizometic Chondrodysplasia Punctata (RCDP). During her short life, she brought so much light and joy to those around her. Ellie G's Dream World is her mother's interpretation of the playground of Ellie's dreams- a place that anyone and everyone can enjoy!

Ellie G's Dream World will be located at the Southeast Municipal Complex on Carothers Parkway. The park is set to include five football fields, walking trails, ADA-accessible restrooms, changing stations, a pavilion, and the first public inclusive playground within the Franklin Parks System.

Thank you, Downtown Franklin Rotary, for hosting an incredible event for a great cause. Learn more about Ellie G's story and the future playground below.

MEET CHERYL TAYLOR

Introducing our HFHWM Vice President of Homeowners Services, Cheryl Taylor!

Cheryl officially joined our staff this spring but has been a loyal and longtime Habitat for Humanitarian. In 2015, she began her involvement with HFHWM as a member of our Board of Directors and served as Board Chair from 2020-2021. Cheryl is an active committee member of both the Hammers & High Heels Planning Committee (4 years) and the Women Build Decorating Committee (2 years). She also volunteered alongside our crew on a mission trip to Guatemala in 2019, which she accredits with helping her discover her life's purpose.

“It truly changed my life! When the pandemic hit, as a lot of us did, I really began to evaluate my life. Do you know the time when you try to find and understand your life’s purpose? Little did I know the non-profit board I was serving on part-time, would be the organization that would help me discover my ultimate purpose in life, to educate and guide those who need the most help.”

Cheryl decided to leave her 34-year career in banking to dedicate her mortgage experience and knowledge to further our mission of safe, affordable housing. Now, Cheryl oversees our Homeowner Services Department and manages all aspects of our homeowners’ process, including the application review and family selection; education and budgeting; underwriting and closing; critical repair for a safe and stable living environment, and post-closing homeownership counseling.

“We have built an incredible team including Ashley Alsup, Homeowner Services Manager; Hannah Seegmiller, Homeowner Services Coordinator; and Bryan Sallman, Critical Repair Manager. Through their servant's hearts, they work tirelessly with the same goal of helping one family at a time realize the dream of homeownership to make their communities better. I am blessed and fortunate to work alongside this team and wonderful organization!”

We are so grateful to have Cheryl on our team and for her longstanding commitment to bettering the lives of families in our community. And a special shoutout to her pup, Cooper, for bringing smiles to our faces around the office!
