School of Excellence
Congratulations Norman Rockwell!

The PTA is proud to share very exciting news! We've been designated a School of Excellence by the National PTA for the 2021-2023 academic school years.

This means that of the tens of thousands of PTAs across the country, your Norman Rockwell PTA was recognized by the National PTA as being a school that is deeply committed to the educational experience and overall well-being of all its students. This is the fifth consecutive term we've been granted this esteemed national award, and we are one of only three Washington schools given this designation. Becoming a National PTA School of Excellence is a joint commitment of PTA and Rockwell's phenomenal staff and administrative team. Way to go everyone!

I want to give a special thanks to Nicole Dahl from the Board, last year's VP of Academic Enrichment and serving as this year's Legislative Advocate, who carried the bulk of the work towards our School of Excellence designation. Principal Clark also proveded lots of help and feedback in the lengthy application process. Thank you so much to eveeryone who responded to our PTA surveys last year. You provided invaluable input in helping your PTA focus our family engagement efforts.

We plan to keep this exciting momentum moving forward, so be on the look out for additional surveys throughout the year as your PTA strives to meet the needs and goals of all members in our Rockwell school community. If you'd like to join our School of Excellence efforts this year, please email Nicole at legislativeadvocate@normanrockwellpta.org to inquire how.

Volunteers Needed

Welcome back to school, Parents! One way to support our school through Rockwell PTA is to volunteer your time. No experience is needed. Make sure that you are ready to volunteer before school starts by filling out a LWSD Volunteer Application here or checking your status AND showing proof of your COVID vaccination in our school office. Your volunteer status will expire after 2 years, at which time you will receive an email notice from the district to renew.

Our most urgent Volunteering needs are for:

  • Art Reflections Chair: Reflections is a National Arts program that allows students to submit art in 6 different categories. The Reflections chair publicizes the event, finds judges for each category and provides electronic forms to all students who enter the contest. The chair also collects the final artwork submissions, coordinates judging and advances qualifying submissions to the council level. Time commitment: 4-6 hours per month September - December.
  • Back to School Picnic Chair: This person will work with VP of Events to find food tricks to provide food, coordinate any ticket sales and recruit volunteers for set-up and clean-up. Time commitment: 2 hours per week in August and September.
  • Kindergarten and New Family Playdate Co-Chairs: We are looking for a couple of experienced Rockwell parents (perhaps of kids in older grades) that can attend one or both of the playdates on Wednesday. August 31st at 11:00AM and 7:00PM to greet new families and answer any general questions new families may have about Rockwell. Time commitment: 1-2 hours of 8/31/22.
  • Math Challenge Co-Chair: We are looking for one person to help with the Math Challenge program for the school year. There are 15 math challenges throughout the year. This co-chair will work with the other co-chair to submit the Math Challenge articles to the Bugle, correct submissions each week and award prizes. Time commitment: 2 hours per week in September and 1 hour per week October - May.
  • Emergency Preparedness Co-Chair: This person would help the existing Co-Chair make Rockwell a safer place by executing some valuable e-prep projects. This role is very flexible since there are minimal obligations and projects are mostly self-determined. Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month and occasional 2 hour projects.
  • Yearbook Photographers: Help capture photos for the yearbook! You don't need a fancy camera - a smart phone camera will do just fine. This is super flexible - you can sign up to cover as few or many events as you wish. Time Commitment: Flexible. Dependent on event sign up.

Other short-term volunteer opportunities for roles like Recess Wranglers and Lunch Room Helpers will be posted closer to the start of school. If you can fill one of the roles above, please email president@normanrockwellpta.org. Thank you for helping!

Student Verification
Due Today!

We are excited to see all of our students this fall! Please verify your student's information in Skyward Family Access. Families must review this information annually to ensure we have accurate emergency contact and health information. This student information verification process opens on August 1 and will close on August 15 (TODAY!).

Here are the steps to complete this process:

A.  Log in to Skyward Family Access.
B.  Click on “Go to Student Information Verification for (Student Name)” or click on the “Student Information Verification” button.
C.  Click on your student’s name.
D.  Verify your student’s information by clicking on “Next” at the bottom of the right-hand panel of your screen to go through the different items to verify or click on the actual line item.
E.  For each step, click "Complete Step # and move to Step #" at the bottom of the screen when done. A check mark will appear next to the item.

Review and request changes for each of the steps below:
1.  Verify Student Information
2.  Verify Military Family Affiliation – State Required
3.  Nurse Alert Form
4.  WA State Immunization Information System
5.  Family Information Booklet
6.  Student Housing Questionnaire
7.  Free and Reduced Lunch Application
8.  Native American Education Program
9.  Too Sick for School
10.  Complete Student Information Verification

Please note: The online system asks for you home phone number. This should be your primary contact number. It does not need to be a landline phone.

F.  Click “Submit Student Information Verification”. (Important Note: Verification is not complete until you click “Close and Finish”.)
G.  Repeat these steps to go through the verification process again for each of your students. Please note: If a student has two families in the Skyward system, only the first family needs to verify the student information.
