Essex County Hits COVID Red Zone
Essex County has moved into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) High Transmission or “Red” category.

“While we were as optimistic as possible, we now know Essex County moved quickly through categories of moderate to substantial and is now in the High transmission category,” Linda Beers, Director of Public Health for the Essex County Health Department (ECHD) said in a news release Wednesday.

The Essex County Board of Supervisors, County Manager Daniel Palmer, and Essex County Health Department support the recommendation to return to indoor masking, and have already implemented a universal mask requirement for all county employees, offices, and visitors to county offices and indoor areas, the release said.
That means, regardless of vaccination status, all are to wear masks while indoors of county buildings.

Local Businesses and Community Organizations Take Public Health into Their Own Hands
In September 2020, the Clinton County Health Department (CCHD) was awarded a
grant called Operation: Light, Quick, Cheap (LQC) through the New York State Health Foundation
(NYSHF). The grant allowed CCHD to work with locally-owned businesses and community-based
organizations to think outside the box and create safe, fun, eye-catching, healthy spaces for the community. The LQC approach includes placemaking.

“The concept of placemaking allows businesses to make cost effective improvements to their space that promotes physical activity and/or healthy eating,” explained Amanda Prenoveau, Public Health Educator in the Division of Health Planning & Promotion at CCHD.

Eighteen applicants were awarded funding up to $8,000 per project.
Unemployed/Underemployed Worker Training (UWT) Grant
The North Country Chamber of Commerce was recently awarded an Unemployed/Underemployed Worker Training (UWT) grant from the New York State Department of Labor. These grant funds will allow us to offer occupational workforce training for individuals and assist them with obtaining gainful employment or help them advance in their career field. In partnership with CV-TEC and Clinton Community College a specialized plan has been developed in three targeted areas - Manufacturing, Food Service, and Medical Office Administration. This training will be offered at no cost and funding will also be made available to help offset the cost of childcare for the trainees.

More detailed information on this program will be coming out this fall.

If your company is interested in interviewing individuals who complete one of the above training programs, please contact Raechell Conn, the Economic Development Program Specialist by phone at (518) 563-1000 or by email.
