La Romieu, the French "Village of Cats"

Our home city of York has a multitude of life-size stone cat sculptures on buildings in the city centre. We developed a walking tour, The York Cat Trail, to help visitors discover them which gets more popular every year.

Alison and I knew of a place in France with a similar feline phenomenon, called La Romieu. Having missed out on a holiday last year due to Covid and work-related issues, we resolved to take an extended break in our motorhome. Our itinerary was vague but we were determined to visit La Romieu.

Our motorhome trip was made possible by our children being home from Uni, keen to earn extra money. If you visited in May/June and were served by a tall young man then it will have been one of them!

Business duties also included "minding the cats" and we were delighted to see Alfie and Charlie looking fit and well on our return.

Of course, we got the cold shoulder from both cats for a couple of days - our punishment for going away!

Gemstone Cats for July, August, September and October

Birthday Coming Up?

Gemstone cats have been our most popular shop product since their introduction late last year.

We picked a semi-precious stone to (largely) colour-match the "official" birthstone list which includes diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald.

Our cute carved gemstone cats are made of natural stone and supplied in a velveteen drawstring "Lucky Gemstone Cat" bag. A card insert details the stone type and the month it represents.

They make a great gift for a cat lover, young or old.
