Hanukkah in the Streets!
A Greater St. Paul Jewish Community Hanukkah Lighting Ceremony and Celebration
December 1, 5:30 - 6:30 pm
Sholom East Parking Lot – 740 Kay Street, St. Paul

The St. Paul Jewish community invites the community for a short ceremony including candle lighting, honoring our Hanukkah Heroes – the staff of Sholom Home — and singing songs. (Ceremony will be available online via livestream on mzion.org.) Before and after, there will be activities for families, live music from the Klezmer “The Village Band”, donuts, hot chocolate, vegetarian food for sale from Sadie’s Taste of Love Food Truck, an honoring of the 350 staff members of Sholom, and candle lighting by Mayor Carter (invited). This is part of a worldwide “open house” of Jewish communities celebrating Hanukkah onsite and online together.

Sponsored by Beth Jacob, Greater St. Paul Federation, Minnesota Hillel, Minnesota JCC, Mount Zion, Sholom, Talmud Torah of St. Paul, and Temple of Aaron.

Contributions to this year’s Annual Campaign honor Mount Zion’s long history and reflect our gratitude for the community that has sustained over the past century and a half AND the last year and half. This free-will offering in response to gratitude supports our essential work and services as a congregation. Our goal is high participation at any level. More information.

Help Afghan Refugees Resettling in Minnesota

Mount Zion’s Tzedek Committee has set up a Target gift registry to make it easy to purchase the most needed items for the Afghan refugees who are resettling in Minnesota. Most of the refugees were able to bring very little with them as they escaped Afghanistan following the U.S. troop withdrawals.

In the Community

- Jewish Family Service of St. Paul (JFS) is leading the B’Yachad Gift Bag program again this year. We invite you to join us as we reach the goal to deliver over 200 gift bags including items for health and safety and a gift card for home essentials and groceries to our clients in need this year. The program extends gifts of essentials, treats and greetings to those in need who can use a boost. There are three opportunities to support the program: donate to help cover the cost of $36 per gift bag; sign up to deliver the bags; and/or sign up to create holiday cards.

Shelter for Shelter, December 5, Sunday, 2:00-3:00pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (700 Snelling Ave):  A free public art and poetry event will raise awareness and funds for Interfaith Action of Greater Saint Paul’s Project Home. Watercolor art by Mount Zion member Sharon DeMark from Shelter, a collaborative book about refuge, with poetry by Margaret Hasse, will be sold by silent auction. Proceeds from the sale of artworks and books (which make great gifts) will benefit St. Paul families needing emergency help. For safety of all, full vaccination and masks are requested. Please also consider bringing a donation of snacks individually packaged and/or winter hygiene items such as hand cream and lip balm. For more information and to RSVP, email Sharon at sdemark@comcast.net
