Hi! Welcome back to VOICES' monthly electronic newsletter. We are reaching you a little later than usual this month because we are preparing to celebrate a milestone in the history of VOICES -- our 40th anniversary. VOICES was founded 40 years ago, on June 30, 1982 -- and what a 40 years it has been. Don't miss our celebration at Lincoln Mall. It will be fun for all and a chance to thumb through our scrapbooks. Celebrate where we have been and where we are going!

VOICES History Highlights

  • 1982:  The YWCA established the VOICES program with a goal to eliminate domestic violence in Stephenson County.
  • 2005:  The VOICES program incorporated as a separate not-for-profit organization under the name VOICES DV.
  • 2014:  VOICES DV began offering advocacy and therapy services to survivors of sexual assault and abuse in Stephenson County as well as prevention education to students.  The organization changed its name to VOICES of Stephenson County.
  • September 2021:  VOICES opened the VOICES Survivors Shelter, the first emergency shelter dedicated specifically to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Stephenson County.
