December 2024 | Vol. 16 Issue 12

On November 25th we had our Fall Farm Tour with Agriculture in the Classroom, and it was a HUGE Success! We couldn't have done it without the incredible individuals who opened their doors and shared their knowledge with us. We had an unforgettable time at Squires Produce and at Empire Livestock.

These hands-on experiences gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the hard work and dedication of producing food and selling/buying livestock.

A huge thank you to our incredible guest speakers and partners who made this day so impactful:

  • Squires Produce for welcoming us and showing the incredible process behind potato farming and warehousing.
  • Empire Livestock for also welcoming us and offering a unique look at the livestock auction process.
  • NYS Dec for sharing insights into conservation and agriculture.
  • Larry Romance & Son for demonstrating the power of farm equipment in modern agriculture.
  • Prattsburgh School's FFA/Agriculture teacher for inspiring students to explore careers in agriculture.
  • Autumn Mist Alpaca Farm for introducing us to the fascinating world of alpacas and fiber production.
  • Steuben County Farm Bureau for their continued support of agricultural education.

Your expertise, passion, and willingness to share your knowledge with students help us connect the classroom to real-world agriculture in the most meaningful way.

Coopers Plains & Hornell Wildwood BOCES' Heavy Equipment Students Aid Local Community Through Flood Clean-Up Service Project

Heavy Equipment students from BOCES’ Coopers Plains and Hornell Wildwood campuses recently completed a flood service project in Canisteo, NY to aid local residents, farmers, and County Department workers. They worked for several weeks to help clear huge amounts of debris after Hurricane Debby. BOCES' instructors, Andy Dennis and Mike Fodge, are working hard to cultivating community minded leaders for our 'tomorrow.' Please thank these students and teachers for their hard work if you see them, or better yet, reach out to them and tell them just how much stronger efforts like this make a community!

Check out some awesome footage captured by BIG FOX WYDC TWIN TIERS of these students in action. Click the link below.
