Calling all Children Artists

USCJ is having an art contest!

USCJ (United Synagogues of Conservative Judaism) puts out a calendar every year that is sent to tens of thousands of people. Will your child be one of the 16 artists showcased in this year's calendar?

Theme: Jewish themed children's art

Ages: Pre-school through high school

A message from USCJ:

At USCJ we care about the next generation, and how they engage with Judaism. We think showcasing their talent will bring great joy to everyone, and remind us of the importance of L'dor V'dor. Please send us your photographs that you think exemplify this theme.

Each month of the calendar will showcase a different example of Jewish children's art. We plan to choose 16 of the most compelling photographs in our calendar. For example, a photograph of a drawing of a scene from the Torah would be great. Or a photo of a pair of painted Shabbat candle holders fits the theme.

Here are some additional examples you can use for your submissions:

  • Challah covers
  • Ceramic trivets with Jewish themes on them
  • Drawings of scenes from the Torah
  • Handmade or painted Hanukkiah
  • Artistic renderings of Jewish stars
  • Afikoman bag
  • Handmade yad
  • Torah cover
  • Painted or handmade Shabbat candles
  • Drawings with Jewish themes

Because the images will be reprinted in the calendar that people hang prominently in their homes, we are hoping for beautiful, inspiring photos, and they must be high resolution.

  • Horizontal photos should be approximately 3600 pixels wide by 2700 pixels high.
  • Vertical photos should be approximately 2700 pixels wide by 3600 pixels high.

We will of course provide photo credits for all images. We will also include the first name and age of the featured child artist. There is a photo release included with the submission form. Please obtain permission from the parents/guardians before submitting any work.

Please follow this link to submit photos to Rivka Friedlander, Calendar Editor. You may also reach Rivka directly at 646-519-9322 or rfriedlander@uscj.org. When submitting, please also provide a brief (2-3 sentence) description of the photo. Submissions are due by Friday, January 27, 2023.
