Greetings and happy new year!

I hope you were able to have a restful break and spend some time with family and friends or in hibernation (as a friend in Ottawa has always done over the holidays).

I am excited for the year to come. The upcoming 2023 Saskatchewan Libraries Conference will be my last conference as President and it is going to be a great one! We have received so many amazing sessions and there is something for everyone.

The SLA Programming Committee is undertaking a review of programs, processes and more. The Saskatchewan Book Awards will be delivered in conjunction with the conference, so we hope to see you there. The Strategic Plan will be finalized. There is so much coming up in 2023.

I encourage you to reach out and be a part of the Board or a committee. There is so much to be gained by it in your personal and professional lives. By the way, the role of the President will be available.

Best wishes for the new year!

Sincerely,

Amy Rankin

CFLA/FCAB's Intellectual Freedom Committee is searching for three new members. We welcome nominations from CFLA/FCAB member associations and self-nominations from members of CFLA/FCAB member associations. Once appointed to the Committee, the responsibility of members is to the Committee, not to the nominating body.

The Committee strives to include a wide variety of backgrounds and interests, uniting individuals who value the principles of intellectual freedom and their application in the present context. The Committee is particularly interested in nominations from individuals from school libraries, public libraries, government libraries, from the middle and eastern part of the country, and those who bring a francophone perspective.

Appointments will be made for a term of 3 years, renewable once, with terms beginning in both October and April.

Interested individuals and nominators from member associations should contact the current membership committee lead, Sarah Meilleur, at sarah.meilleur@calgarylibrary.ca.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets

The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.

The Saskatchewan Library Association gratefully acknowledges the support

of our funding agencies.
