Dependence

Dependence

Often in my quiet time in the mornings I read a devotional from Jesus Calling, (an app, I have on my phone) and this past week I read one that was titled: “When Some Basic Need is Lacking”.

The title didn’t catch my attention as much as one word: dependence.  And it made me really consider how am I dependent on God.

Is God my first “go to” when things go awry? Or do I try to rely on my own strength and try to control a situation that is before

me using a worldly view which often includes my pride and selfish take?

Life is full of obstacles, problems, and everyday needs that threaten our sense of peace and security.  But the question is: how many of those potholes stated above are ones that I have chosen to hold tight to instead of relinquishing the strongholds to the Lord?  Have I conceded to the fact that I don’t have lingering answers, or wisdom or strength or fortitude to overcome life’s creeping difficulties? Probably not…Self driving options of control are hard to deny…but in my heart I know God always has the better way.  After all he knows our fears, weaknesses and insecurities and he not only loves us in spite of them but is waiting for our prayerful requests so he can help.  Dependence on God is not a bad thing… it is a heavenly honor. Gift, and offering  that we as his children have been given.

The main purpose of prayer is to remind us of our dependence on God…For our every breathe depends on HIM. Asking God for what we need ought to be just as natural as breathing. If God just gave us what we needed without our asking, we would cease to be dependent on Him. Prayer is a way of binding us to Him.

“Jesus Calling: WHEN SOME BASIC NEED IS LACKING—time, energy, money—consider yourself blessed. Your very lack is an opportunity to latch onto Me in unashamed dependence. When you begin a day with inadequate resources, you must concentrate your efforts on the present moment. This is where you are meant to live—in the present. It is the place where I always await you.”

We are dependent on so many worldly things; all have no lasting

power;  only temporary things that we hold tight to for security.

Our lasting security and peace is from God, and God only!

May this note be one of encouragement and also a reminder that  true and lasting peace no matter what the circumstances, is only through letting go and letting God be our moment by moment default when help is needed…. For help is only a prayer away.

May we believe it, trust it and depend on it. For there lies our true security, no matter what life throws our way.

James 1:2-3

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in. Jesus Christ.

Praise God wherever you are or whatever situation he has allowed you to be in...for his Glory will shine through!
