Get to know your Vestry- Q&A with Maggie Reinberger
During Mother Nikki's sabbatical, the Friday newsletters will feature one Vestry member each week. Please thank them for their service to the congregation, and let them know if you are able to assist with their committee's work!
Q: Name?
A: Maggie Reinberger, 2nd year on Vestry
Q: What's the best part about serving on Vestry?
A: I enjoy working with the other members of the church on getting the nitty gritty done. I also enjoy the fellowship!
Q: What's the hardest part about serving on the Vestry?
A: There are a lot of details to keep track of, and we can't do everything everyone wants to do, so making decisions can be hard.
Q: What's your committee assignment?
A: Shelby Welch and I were given the task to revive the Parish Life Committee, after the long break from gathering necessitated by COVID. We put out an appeal, and we had a wonderful response from the parish, including several new members to St. Gregory's. It is a wonderful way to get to know the church, and other members. We have put on several festive coffee hours, with the help of parishioners, and we have more in the plans, including a coffee hour in honor of Doug Adkins' ordination. Our duties also include assisting in funeral receptions, as requested by the family. We have 2 co-chairs, Karen Brill and Jill Crandall. We have a good team of workers, but we also can use more members, and we also need the help of parishioners to supply all of the wonderful goodies.
Q: What would you tell someone who was considering serving on the Vestry?
A: I would tell people it is enjoyable to have a say in how things are done, and the company is very pleasant.
Q: What are your thoughts about the upcoming Capital Improvements Campaign?
A: When I first heard about the idea of a Capital Campaign, I heard it as a way to raise money for a new organ, so that idea has always stayed in my head. There are so many things we could do, but it would be good to have a new organ, with all of the good music that is being produced.
Q: What hobbies do you enjoy?
A: One hobby Mark and I enjoy together is sailing. We learned on little boats way back before kids, now in retirement we are part of a club on Lake Lanier and we sail a 30 foot sloop. Our family has taken two sailing trips, the latest was 6 days in the British Virgin Islands.
Q: What is your favorite hymn?
A: My favorite hymn is "Praise to the Lord", #390. We used it for the processional at our wedding, and the congregation was instructed to "sing vociferously!"
