ITCVA NEWS

Great News!

This determination is a direct result of the work you do every day.

We received our annual determination letter from OSEP, and Virginia has been determined to "Meet Requirements". This determination is based on data from Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2021, which covers July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2022. "Meets Requirements" is the highest (best) level of determination a state can receive. It means that our Part C early intervention program for infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families is in compliance with key federal requirements and is achieving positive results for the children and families we serve. This determination is a direct result of the work you do every day. We recognize that this often very challenging work, and we appreciate your continued commitment to infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families in Virginia.

User Education Hours: SSG will hold three User Education sessions over the summer to address common questions they receive and answer other questions you may have. These will be an excellent opportunity for veteran TRAC-IT users and newer users to increase their confidence as we move toward Phase II implementation in December. During each session, SSG will complete a walk-through of a task(s) in TRAC-IT that users often have questions about and then respond to questions on that or other topics. Session dates and times are as follows:

  • July 19, 2:30-3:30
  • August 22, 2:30 - 3:30

You can register using this link and only need to register once to participate in all three sessions: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2855613547770411611

Certification Status: If you receive notification that your EI certificate has expired/become inactive it's typically due to one of two reasons:

  • you forgot to renew your certification
  • you have not updated your license expiration date in TRAC-IT

Reminder for children discharged after intake:

When you select Discharge from the Intake Visit task, the intake visit information is NOT stored. If the Intake occurred, you should click COMPLETE and then discharge from the next open task. By clicking Discharge on any task, you are indicating that the event did not occur and you need to discharge. This situation is explained on page 4 in the Discharge Quick Reference Card: https://resources.vaei.casetivity.com/Documents/Discharge+v3.pdf

State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP)

ITCVA is committed to supporting the social-emotional needs of children and families. The ultimate goal of the current SSIP is to improve the percentage of infants and toddlers who substantially increase their rate of growth in the area of positive social-emotional skills (including social relationships) by the time they exit early intervention.

PROMOTING SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Pyramid Model for Promoting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and

Young Children

Teaching Your Child About Feelings from

Birth to Age 2

Young children experience many of the same emotions adults do. Children can feel angry, jealous, excited, sad, silly, frustrated, happy, and worried. The difference is that very young children—ages birth to 3—often lack the self-control and language skills to express their strong feelings in ways that adults find acceptable. Instead, babies and toddlers communicate strong emotions through their sounds and actions.
