The Plug-in Electric Vehicle Collaborative’s Disadvantaged Communities Committee (PEV DAC) has published a grant application template and called for regional projects to be submitted. The template contains:

California Transportation Commission "Trade Corridor Enhancement Program (TCEP)

- Up to $815M in funding for infrastructure improvements on federally designated Trade Corridors of National and Regional Significance, on California's portion of the National Highway Freight Network.
- All projects nominated must be identified in a currently adopted regional transportation plan.
- Eligible applicants are public entities, such as cities, counties, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Regional Transportation Planning Agencies, port authorities, public construction authorities, and Caltrans.

Ford Lightning Price Hike for 2023

While the orderbanks for the Lightning are closed right now, Ford has announced that the 2023 Lightning will have a 30% price hike, with the base pickup jumping from $41,699 to $51,974.

Ford SuperDuty Pickups Going Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Ford has premiered the zero-emission “Lightning” battery-electric pickup. With the extended range battery, it tops out out at just over 8,500# GVWR. But Ford’s zero-emission plans for working trucks over that point seem to be hydrogen fuel cell.

Tesla Semi Production Starts

Tesla has announced that they will begin production of the Tesla Semi soon with the first deliveries scheduled for Pepsi in December. Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has repeated the claim that the Semi will have a 500 mile range and will be, “...fun to drive.”

Brookings Report on Electric Energy
|
|
The Brookings Institution has issued an analysis of the electric energy necessary to meet the goals established in the Inflation Reduction Act. The analysis concludes that the US will need twice as much electricity by 2050 as was used in 2018, and will need to generate that electricity from largely entirely new (i.e.renewable) sources because existing combustion generation will be phased out. The report also concludes that there will be a requirement to build 60% more high voltage transmission lines by as soon as 2030.

Honda has redesigned the CR-V Hybrid and boosted the front wheel drive “Sport” and “Touring” EPA combined rating to 40mpg. The CR-V Hybrid is certified to the CARB “Ultra Low Emission Vehicle” (ULEV) standard.

Rivian has recalled all R1T and R1S vehicles built to date (about 13,000) because of potential steering linkage failure. To date, seven incidents of steering failure have occured.

GM's Energy Management Plans

GM intends to do more than use vehicle battery storage to power homes. GM has formed “GM Energy” and plans to use their Ultium Charge 360, Ultium Hom and Ultium Commercial for a full range of energy production, management, storage, microgrids, fuel cells, etc.

NASA Tech Could Speed EV Charging
|
|
A technology developed by NASA for cooling systems in space has the potential to be used to keep cables and batteries cool during charging. The system, known as "subcooled flow boiling," is complex but it could allow for much higher energy transfer rates, potentially fully charging an EV in five minutes.
