FOR PODIATRISTS -

Dr. Nicole Freels on Ideas for "MailBox Money"

The Importance of Ancillary Revenue

For private practices, generating additional streams of income is crucial for financial sustainability. Ancillary revenue, often referred to as "mailbox money," is income that comes in regularly without requiring active work. This can significantly improve a practice's financial health while enhancing the services offered to patients.

Start by Dreaming Big

The first step to creating ancillary revenue is to dream. Think about what is missing in your field or what products could improve your practice. For instance, creating your own product line, such as foot care products or therapeutic devices, can set you apart in the market. Begin by researching what's already available, then develop something unique that aligns with your practice’s brand and patient needs.

  • Brainstorm product ideas
  • Organize and track progress using tools like Trello
  • Focus on unique offerings that stand out in the market

Set Up Before You Launch

Preparation is key when launching a new revenue stream. Have everything ready—marketing materials, product information, and a clear story behind your new offering. This ensures a smooth roll-out without confusion among patients and staff.

Consider Consulting or Subscription Services

If you're skilled in areas such as web design, coding, or offering niche advice, creating a subscription-based service can generate consistent income. For instance, offering consulting services or specialized memberships provides ongoing revenue with minimal effort once set up.

Invest in Low-Overhead Services

Incorporating low-cost services, like mobile foot care for nursing homes, can create another income stream. Hiring professionals, such as nurse practitioners, to handle these services offers a "hands-off" way to generate additional revenue.

Laser Therapy and Membership Programs

Incorporating services like laser therapy into your practice can attract patients while boosting your income. Implementing membership programs, such as discounted or priority services, can create recurring revenue and increase patient retention.

Diversify and Network

Never rely on just one revenue stream. Build multiple income avenues, such as writing articles, partnering with vendors, or starting an online presence. Networking and creativity are essential for long-term success.

Maximizing Content Creation: How to Use YouTubeDigest to Repurpose Videos

Creating engaging, high-quality content is a cornerstone of digital marketing, but consistently producing fresh material can be time-intensive and frankly - overwhelming. Enter YouTubeDigest, a powerful tool designed to help regular people like you and me transform a single YouTube video into multiple pieces of content. As a busy podiatrist or office assistant, this tool can amplify your content strategy with minimal effort.

For the past month or so, I’ve been playing around with various AI tools to make my work tasks - specifically content creation - take less time. I started using an AI tool to “milk” any video content I have. Here's how to use it effectively.

For this example, I used the “MailBox Money” video that Dr. Nicole Freels created for us. Start by uploading or linking a YouTube video to YouTubeDigest (I use the free extension for Google Chrome browsers).

TLDR (too long didn’t read - my personal favorite!)

This is great to use not only for your own content, but how many of us have wasted time watching a YouTube video only to discover that it didn’t actually cover the topic we were most interested in? Big thanks to clickbait headlines and titles for that one - so frustrating! You can use this tool to give you a bite-sized summary of the video. Here’s what popped out:

“To create "mailbox money" in a healthcare practice, focus on developing ancillary revenue streams that generate income passively. This could include launching unique product lines, offering subscription-based services, or leveraging consulting and digital content like YouTube videos. Key to success is identifying market gaps, innovating with products or services, and setting up systems in advance for streamlined operations. Build relationships with vendors, explore partnerships, and use platforms like YouTube or mobile services like foot care for nursing homes to create long-term revenue. The goal is to diversify income without requiring continuous active work.”

Here are several other ways you can use this tool to turn your video into multiple pieces of content…

UPCOMING PODIATRY CONFERENCES

THE INDUSTRY'S MOST COMPREHENSIVE EVENT RESOURCE

click images below for upcoming meetings

Are you registered to exhibit at SAM or thinking about it?

I spent some time recently looking over their prospectus to find some interesting low-cost ways exhibitors can add visibility. Some options to consider are: Pre Conference Emails, Quarter page program ads (make sure it includes a specific CTA for this event), Mobile App push notifications, and floor stickers (be creative with this one).

Deadlines for many advertising options are approaching (December 4th) so make your decisions now! The SAM website has a very handy document that covers the instructions and deadlines for all deliverables. Explore all the info by clicking here.

Also, when choosing your booth, even though your choices may be limited by your budget, don’t forget to consider other factors such as proximity to a well-known brand that is usually busy, or sightlines to the entrance and exit doors. For example, I think Booths 813, 817, 819, 110, and 118 are all good choices and are still available! (as of 11/30/24 at 1:25 pm)
