Hurley Hawks Soar & Connect

Hurley Elementary Principal Dr. Yesenia Alvarez is beaming with pride and excitement as she shares what her team has focused on to ignite family engagement at the school this month.

"Care and Connect activities provided our families with the much needed interactions on our school campus to feel engaged and involved once again," said Dr. Alvarez.

"Parent involvement and connection at Hurley has been challenging the last two and a half years because we lost our physical connection with our families. Engaging via Zoom was challenging for us. The activities these past few weeks have brought so many of our families joy and the connectedness they desired to feel part of Hurley once again! From movie night, to 1:1 assessments, to popsicles, to Loteria, family art afternoons, and how to use high frequency words at home -- it's been a total success!"

Santana Eagles Host Welcome Back Rally

Santana Assistant Principal Cristina Canales, Superintendent Dr. Mitchell, and RUSD Board Vice President Erik Venegas with Santana ASB Students Laurissa Ybarra and Leslie Melendez.

From Hacky Sac games to "Let's Paint" stations, Ping-Pong Games and a Students vs. Teachers Kick Ball playoff, students were at the main stage of Santana's Welcome Back Rally. Superintendent Dr. Mitchell along with Board of Education Vice President Erik Venegas  joined the fun with a surprise visit making the event extra special for the staff and students!

"The event's main focus was to establish relationships and create opportunities to develop connections with students to improve student learning and outcomes," said Santana Assistant Principal Cristina Canales. "In developing relationships with our students on our Santana High School campus, we seek to expand our knowledge and awareness of social-emotional learning practices that will elicit resilience and empower student outcomes."

Rowland Elementary Rascals

Rowland Elementary families enjoy meeting teachers (and Kona Ice!) at Welcome Back event.

How often does a kid get snail mail? Not often right? So the fourth grade team at Rowland Elementary thought that they could surprise the students with a handwritten letter from their future teacher! They connected with their students with handwritten letters over the summer to get them excited about the school year. The 4th grade team also included a prepaid envelope so students and parents could respond and tell their teachers more about themselves.

The 4th through 6th grade classes also had a Welcome Back Meet and Greet. Students and parents were invited to come enjoy some refreshing Kona Ice while meeting their new teachers and reconnecting with their friends.   Follow Rowland Elementary on Twitter @RascalPride @rowlandEL_PTA
